Out of the 3 greyhounds I have, as well as all the greys I've fostered, I've yet to find one who didn't really like kids! One of mine goes to elementary schools to visit and talk about greyhounds. So, I guess my vote would always be greyhounds - no question.

It would depend what the lurcher was bred with. If the lurcher is half saluki and half bull terrier, then odds are it will be a bad dog for kids. But if it's half greyhound and half Labrador retriever, maybe it'll be better with kids than a purebred greyhound.
Either way, sighthounds aren't always the best family dogs, depending on how old your kids are. Sighthounds tend to be quite sensitive when it comes to loud noises, and their very short fur makes them rather touchy. They don't like to be poked and prodded. If your kids are over 12 and really calm and quiet, a sighthound might fit in well, but otherwise I might recommend some other kind of dog for a family with kids.

Both are kind of "iffy" around kids. If the kids are under 8, I'd say "PASS" and get a lab or a lab mix. Check with local greyhound rescue groups for more info. They can help you find one that would be good around kids. Like I said, no matter what they say, pass on both breeds unless the kids are older. Tots and these breeds don't mesh well and I know 'cause I know tons of people with adopted greyhounds. My friend had to give back hers 'cause it'd snap at her 2 and 5 year old when they'd try to pet it! I don't like lurchers and they are not family dogs.

Gray hound are great dogs friendly and can be a couch potatoes. Always keep in a 6foot or higher fenced in yard or on a leash. These dog are sight hounds and will chase just about anything. But they are very sweet & good dogs and great with kids.

Sighthounds are very good with kids, although if your kids are wild and loud, the Hound may not be very happy, they tend to like quiet homes.
Lurchers are a cross, hard to say if they would be good or not. It depends on the cross and the individual, temperments will vary.

Lurchers for sure. But beware, they'll do anything for food.
