Smart people can do this. They can interpret and distort definitions so as to make any contradiction disappear.

Example: Let's say the bible says there are round squares. This is obviously a contradiction. But I can stretch the meaning and give you a B.S. resolution to it:

"What they really meant was a square with rounded edges, so it's really not a contradiction."

Give me an example of one you can't explain and I will explain it in a Christian manner.

fjpoblem: Ouch....I think I can do it though.

"Everything I say is a lie"

This is obviously mean to be taken metaphorically to illustrate the futility of trying to explain god without faith. You need to look at the context of this passage.

How's that? Sounds very Christian.

A contradiction can be explained away because the premise that it is without error is used. The same thing is done by scientist who presume that God doesn't exist, therefore the evidence of evolution makes sense. Without understanding the presumptions that someone has, we don't really see the logic they are using (or not using).

When one studies the Bible properly with the Holy Spirit as your guide and a good Strongs concordance with the Greek and Hebrew, then you will find that the answers are there and there are no contradictions.. Without the Holy Spirit you will not be able to understand and it will be confusing.
A person that does not believe in God, obviously will not believe in miracles and thus all of the miracles seem impossible, and are according to science that doesn't believe in God.
For instance. A person is positively diagnosed with cancer and there is no doubt. Then some Christians pray for this person and they have some experience at the time of the prayer. Then the doctors discover that this person does not have cancer. This person will be convinced that God healed them through prayer, but the unbeliever will call it a coincidence. The person that had the experience will know what happened but the unbeliever will say that you need faith.

Hi Meat,

I am left to assume that my prior input was lost on its way to the processing center or just didn't compute.

Input: Reprocess prior input resulting from output labeled "why do you think the bible doesn't contain any contradictions".
Stop. Process

It's okay Meat. We'll wait.

Why would I find it necessary to explain away seemingly contradictory statements, made at the hands of men? I might feel the urge to understand which if either were correct! I might study with an open mind to find a truth that supersede men's contradiction. Of course it would be easier to just close my eyes and convince myself that there is no truth, only electrical impulses that result in stimuli reaction. But that would be so, um, irrational!

Love ya!

It would make more sense and the question would be able to be answered if you actually mentioned the supposed contradiction that is mentioned in Scripture.

Saying that the Bible says there are round squares is not even logical. There is a difference between illogical statements and contradictions.

There was nothing wrong with your clarification of the round square. Pretty good. However, I would like if you used an actual example, then asked for additional examples. But, because religion is faith based not everything is explainable, and you shouldn't have to explain it or see physical evidence, otherwise it would not be religion.

Also, you shouldn't just say "Christians", but should say "Religions, politicians, attorneys, businessmen/women, prideful people, ignorant people, etc." Everyone tries to validate who they are and what they believe...and no ones perfect.

I don't purport to have all the answers. However, God does. I could attempt to explain perceived contradictions - but I won't. The Bible is God's Word - either you believe it to be or you don't - my opinions and beliefs would not alter your perception. If you truly want to know the truth, just ask God - it's as simple as that. But I think that by the phrasing of your question, your mind has already been made up and you are not open to Biblical truth - I hope I am wrong.

If you had an understanding of scripture, you would know that there are no contradictions. Even if you have studied the bible extensively in english, that is not enough to gain understanding. So I cannot explain any contradictions seeing as there are none. Why don't you study the hebrew and greek manuscripts and then get back to us.

There are many things about Scripture that I do not understand, and a few that seem to be mistranslations by misguided people. If I knew you well, and had faith in your connection to the Almighty I might share some of them with you, but what would be the benefit under current conditions? Most of "churchianity" is going to Hell because they intentionally disobey Scripture. Ex 23:13 is very plain that we should not use names of heathen mighty ones.... like "GOD" and "JESUS" (there was no "J" until 1400 A.D. so we know the name of the Almighty, and the name of the Messiah can't have a "J" in it!

Here's one: Steve R apparently doesn't believe in or value Christianity. Steve R also apparently spends much of his time thinking, speaking, and writing about Christianity.

This is a contradiction that I cannot explain away.

Many clear answers are found in the Bible. God has given us his Word as a guide, comfort, and map of sorts. As far as "contradictions" - can you address specific contradicitions that you have questions about that come directly from the Bible? That would be more applicable than your indirect one from above.
