DDT has been shown to greatly hurt the environment. because it is synthetic it can not be broken down. the resulting effect is biological magnification. the plants get DDT, the bugs eat the plant and get DDT, the small animals eat the bugs and get even more DDT. Birds such as falcons eat the small animals and get a very large amount of DDT. the DDT causes calcium depletion and the eggs that the birds lay have very thin egg shells due to this. thus causing a drop in the bird population which in turn increases the small animal population which in turn decrease the amount of food they have to eat

Now-a-days its mostly bad.DDT is used on pests which are eaten by birds & animals.as DDT passes from one trophic level to another (that is, from pest - bird - animal - human) its concentration increases. This increase in concentration from one trophic level to another is called bio-magnification.Finally when it reaches human being the concentration level is in alarming quantity. There was a case where the eggs of certain specie of bird couldnt hatch bcoz of the bio-magnification of DDT.Recently its found out that pests have developed immunity towards DDT.

It also makes the eggshells of some kinds of birds thin, thin to the point that the eggs break, and don't hatch.

"Good" or "bad" depends on your point of view. It could save human lives in places where malaria is carried by mosquitoes, while at the same time decimating the birds. People or birds? You decide.

It is harmful to birds and insects.
