if i am playing poker online is my broadband provider adequate with a limit of 5mb?

Yes, any speed is adequate for most online poker sites because the software is installed onto your PC. The only communication that is between your PC and the poker site is to indicate what bets you make etc.

It works on the same principle as bigger online games. The communication is small compared to if you were playing Halo for instance

My mate plays on-line poker with dial-up so I assume so.

I know of several player who us dial up connections. You shouldn't have any problems.
