I am going to get my cat spayed because she seems to be in heat all the time. I just want to make sure she won't get "fat and lazy" and that she won't have any personality changes. Any info would be great.

Hi Heather...many people have been misinformed about the facts and myths on spaying pets. Spaying rarely doesn't affect the cat's individual personality and also doesn't cause cats to become overweight nor lazy rather as cats age they begin to mellow out a bit more. However, if a cat is free fed (food is available at all times) they will tend to overeat and if they are not active will then become overweight from overeating and not enough exercise.

Please consider reading the following information on the facts and myths about spaying/neutering pets and perhaps this will assure you this is not a true statement: http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/myths_and_facts_about_spaying_and_neutering.html

I didnt get my cat spayed until she was two and a half years old. It didn't change her any. Except that she doesnt go into heat anymore. And thats ok with me. All that howling for a boyfriend was getting obnoxious. Shes still the same cat, just more content with life.

No problem. I have three cats and the oldest blossomed to 21 pounds. I put all of them on calorie counter cat food or iams indoor, weight, hairball food. Comes in blue bag and states that on the front. All of my cats have lost weight over 2 months. Purina also has a weight management food that is great. Hang in there.

the only a cat will get fat a lazy if you over feed her and she doesn't get out and a about..just feed her amount that she only need..plus you can also ask your vet as he/she would know alot more then people on here as they would not give you the right answer. Each Cat is different and each owner is different as well. It would be like saying a sore on your foot and someone gave your to try there cream that was from the doctor that was only for them..cause it was made up for them only as there body is different from your own and doctors tell you never take someone ESL meds..so you see..ask your doctor

I have 4 cats; 2 boys and 2 girls. One of the boys got fatter after he got spayed...same for the 2 girls. My other boy cat stayed skinny. All of the cats had their personality changed, although. And usually their personalities get cuter :P

I have my cat spayed and she is very happy, perky and still playful at age five.Far as weight gain it all depends on you and how much you feed your cat.Indoors versus out door cat.Exercise for out door cats is easy in door cats have enough room to run and romp.won't get fat.

We have two cats that have both been spayed. One of them got fat and lazy, seriously he looks like garfeild....the other one a lot of people say he's a big cat but he's not as big as our garfield....but the smaller one we call him monster because he is defenitly not lazy, he's a little monkey still up to the same old games always looking to annoy the other animals.
