In the past some creationists claimed that since an atomic nucleus is composed of protons with a positive charge and neutrons with no charge, that the nucleus should not be able to stay together. After all, particles with like charges repel each other. Then they quote Col. 1.17 ("And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.") and say that it must be Jesus who binds the nucleus together.

If this argument is valid, then Jesus must not be powerful enough to hold together the nuclei of radioactive elements, because it is the fact that nuclear decay is caused by protons and neutrons being cast off from the nucleus.

So I am curious if creationists still use that argument.

To JC is the man - I wasn't sure if anyone was still using that argument anymore, but I looked at www.chick.com and sure enough, his tract "Big Daddy" was still there and that is where I first heard that argument back in the early '70s.

Jesus is letting all those fast neutrons slip through his fingers. Thanks for Hiroshima, Jesus!

That has been one argument not the whole of the argument. I am a creationist and I believe that when God through Christ created the Cosmos and all that there is, he established every system with the ability to sustain itself, yet sin entered into the picture and caused death and decay to a lot of systems, some even producing faster decay than what we understand. Scientists see the decay as gradual and constant, however due to Man's sin and being created to be the head of God's physical creation, by his sin in the garden started the decay and this has not only caused decay to begin, but also is the causing of such decay to speed up the farther along we go. I believe that this is reason why we have such differing view points of how old the universe is. The decay is increasing and will continue to increase growing more until Christ comes again.

About your argument that says that if this was the case would it show that Christ is not all powerful, however if that is what his desire was to allow the decay to occur, then that would be apart of his plan.

I would say that the nucleus, being the central region of an atom, that atoms are composed of negatively charged electrons, positively charged protons, and electrically neutral neutrons. The protons and neutrons (collectively known as nucleons) are located in a small central region known as the nucleus. The electrons move in orbits which are large in comparison with the dimensions of the nucleus itself. Protons and neutrons possess approximately equal masses, each roughly 1840 times that of an electron. The number of nucleons in a nucleus is given by the mass number A and the number of protons by the atomic number Z. Nuclear radii r are given approximately by r = 1.2 × 10?15 m A1/3.

THE BIBLE IS MY FIELD OF STUDY

I am not into your field of study. God expects some one to be expert in all fields.

Gen.1:1,2 [ This is time beyond the imagination of average people, God does expect this to be a field where some are experts, but not those that after they figure it out,
by what is most likely science, and probably what some call evolution along with Gen.1:3-25; and this time is expected to be handled by God respecting people who can come near to telling all humans no experts in this field some facts that makes God and man appear intelligent ].

Until I read or study something that sounds expert, my guess is as good as that of any one else. If the imperfections of sins in all souls still leaves us magnificently made, for
sure we have to wonder what perfectly made is and why Adam lived 930 years after sin.
Why did age drop so drastically? There are a lot for experts to pull together and pass on, one thing for sure, no human being caused all the things that are presented to
people in the study of creation that sounds as reliable as the facts fron Adam to Christ to his second coming, this is in facts, the rest is as good a guess for me as it is any one else until some one is determined to be expert.
That still does not mean that I have to be expert, I just need to know that there is an expert.

I do not even know what these people mean by creationists, it sounds as people that study the bible where it speaks of creation is being slandered for even reading about it.

I know that what you are talking about exist, but you did not do it yourself. Jesus is holding together things pertaining to angels and humans.
God does not tell us all the things he is holding together or how, only that he is. Job 38:30-32; Job is equal to me, if God did not tell him, he would not know.
Job.19:25,26;
He knows how his redeemer is going to handle him being a soul born in the imperfections of Sin. Job 33:4,22; 34:14,15; He is expert in things he should know.

They still use a whole range of arguments that have been thoroughly debunked. I saw the bombardier beetle fallacy on here recently and I haven't seen that used in years.

Creationists would not care about your theory, they have their own.
Face it, no one has the answer to the origins of the universe, probably never will.....people just need something to believe in, whether it's something in an electron microscope or ascension into heaven.

As a Christian, I believe that God holds the universe together through the laws of physics that He vreated.

The specific answer you cited simply displays ignorance of such, in my opinion.

Our english word Science comes from the latin word Scientia which means KNOWLEDGE. People's constant quest for knowledge and independence causes them to be further from God's presence and truth. If you had faith and trust in God and knew his truth - this question wouldn't matter.
