When I was a kid, we could watch all the local channels with minimal issue (granted, we had to "adjust" the anntenae every once in a while). Why is it that these days you have to pay for cable or satellite just to be able to get a good picture on your t.v.?

I didn't say I didn't like satellite or cable. Just asking the question. Thumbs-down for a smart-a$$ answer, non-technical answer.

You don't HAVE to, you can get decent picture with a TV with a set of bunny ears as long as you have a clear path of reception. But the fact is that over the air transmissions just aren't capable of providing the kind of quality and clarity that most people nowadays are used to. Much like cellphones, the signal degrades the farther it goes, and the more obstacles in the way.

This is a shortcoming of most over the air communications like traditional broadcast TV with antenna, and radio.

You can still get a good picture with an antenna. You can even get a good HD picture with a HD antenna. I have a Terk indoor HD antenna that works very well with local channels. You might need to upgrade your antenna if your not getting a good picture or maybe you live too far from a TV tower.

Your forgetting how bad it was back then. You had maybe 3 to 5 channels tops and the picture was really grainy sometimes.

We had demanded better picture, better sound and now have the t.v.s for it!

Hurray for better T.V.

If you don't like cable or sattelite don't watch it.
