They are two different fruits. A green lemon doesn't taste like a lime. There is no such thing as a key lemon.

Color and taste, I believe they are very closely related plants. I was reading a history book about the British, and at 1785 they did not have a word for lemon, it was called Yellow Limes. They fed yellow limes to the sailors to cure scurvey, and that was why the British were called Limey's. In reality, they were just drinking lemonade.

Color and Taste....

LEMONS - Thin-skinned lemons tend to be much juicier than thick-skinned ones. A sprinkling of lemon juice stops other fruits discolouring. Organic unwaxed lemons are now widely available.

LIMES - Lime juice is an excellent substitute for lemon juice and is frequently used in Asian cooking. In season February to July.

Good luck! _;-)

Although they are both citrus fruits ...
a lemon is yellow and egg shaped, and (tastes like a lemon!!)
a lime is usually green-skinned, sometimes roundish and somtimes shaped a little more
like a lemon ... also, a diffferent flavor from a lemon ...

When I lived in Florida I had a lime tree and a lemon tree in my yard. Other than the color of the fruit they looked exactly the same.

I am going to go with taste. They taste different.

Lime and lemon are both citrus fruits.
Lime is green ,round and if it is left to ripen! it becomes yellow.
(Nimbu)
Lemons are yellow or green as well..but the yellowish ones are more common and are oval in shape .
They have a different taste and flavour.
Both are Nimboo or Nimbooda in Hindi
