Well, depends on what your going to do with it. If you going to show it and want a very healthy, fully pedigreed showing dog, your going to pay the high range, some where even up to about 1000$ some even more. If you are going to get a pet, then you are going to pay a very WIDE range of prices. Anywhere from 250$ to 800$. Chihuahua's are popular, small, and designer. Some people will say, extra-small or tea-cup to get higher prices, this is not good, the smaller the dog the more extreme the health risks and problems. Then you get people who say rare colors! Merles and rare or strange new colors means 2 things. Cross breeding with other breeds therefore not "purbred" and you just paid an enormous amount of money for a mutt, OR they are inbred (bred to close family members) and are likely to be unhealthy. There are two types of Chihuahua's long haired, and shorthair, if an advertisement says RARE long haired. They are full of poo they arent rare its just that not too many people bred for the long hair variety cause they dont have that characteristic look of the Chihuahua that everyone knows. You can get both long hairs and short haired in the same litter. Dont get fooled by people stating... The TACO BELL dog look! That look, was what originally Chihuahua dogs started out as, then came the added features after long years of breeding for standard. To me any pet quality Chihuahua in the adds in the papers today are too overpriced. I guess you need to do some research and go looking. Dont by on impulse. Really shop.. Go for socialized, healthy, clean, hardy, sturdy puppies, who have good happy healthy parents and great clean and wonderful breeders. Then I would compare prices and then BAM get yourself a cutie pie!!!

Before deciding on what is a good price to pay for a Chihuahua consider its quality and bloodlines. Do your research before making a purchase.
I would like to recommend to you contact the breeder referral service for the Chihuahua Club of America. They are dedicated to preserving and improving this breed. You can contact breeders in your area that are reputable and will be able to get a healthy pup. A good breeder will allow you to tour their kennel facilities, see journals kept of their breeding practices, ask you question of concern as well as answer your questions.
Please check the breed standard for the Chihuahua breed on the AKC website so that you may have a better understanding of the breed. This will assist you in picking a quality pup.
Overall prices can range between $150 to $300 for unregistered based on my experience of seeing advertisements. While registered pups usually sell for $300 to $1800 on average or more for high quality (show quality).
I would be less apt to buy from an unknown backyard breeder as they do not really take the time to identify problem traits amongst males and females before breeding. This leads to pups with possible defects or health problems. Please take all of this into consideration before making a final decision.
Good luck and have fun!!! I love Chihuahuas.

An overpriced chihuahua would be ANY that is in a pet store!
You would be paying too much up front to buy it, and then too much in medical bills to keep it alive.
Pet stores get pups from puppy mills!
Your best bet would be to go to AKC.org and look up chihuahua breeders in your state. If you contact them, they will be happy to talk to you about chihuahuas and what a reasonable price would be!
Good luck!

It depends on where you live, but I'd expect between 500-800. The more important thing is to get your moneys worth. Make sure you buy from a reputable breeder. Ask to see their kennel, ask to speak to some of the previous buyers. Get health records on both the sire and the dam, and their parents. Make sure they have all the correct medical certifications, and have the puppy examined by your vet (not theirs) before you purchase it. Make sure you know the proper breed standards so you know what your looking for. Get a referral to a good breeder from the your local chapter of the AKC.

Think seriously about the local shelters and some of the chihuahua breed rescue sites. They only charge for the shots and neutering or spaying.

when ever i breed my chihuahua i stole the pups for $150 to$300
have you ever owned one... they have a tendices to bite if you teach them to be that way.. they are real nervous..not good for small children..for a older they are great because of the size of them.. they bark alot and i have always had a problem house breaking them.. they chew a lot also...if you plan to breed get a akc one they cost more but you can get more money for their pups and if you got a ack on you can contact the ckc and get their papers also and have both sets.. you can not get akc if all you got is ckc .. also they are pron to ashma attacks...not a big deal really.. but if your not expecting it it can scare you ...other than that they make great pets .. i have kept my breeder female when i stopped breeding and made her a family pet..

Anything over a dollar hahaha. Okay serious now anything over $400. Depending on what you want it for. If you are planning on a show you can go much higher than that but, for just a good old companion dog not over $400. Dog prices have gone up so much over the years its unreal. I paid $1500 for my Bulldog. Which was a good deal. Chis are nice but they are yappers. They will bark at a twig breaking outside 50 feet away. If you have had one cool if not do a little research on some dogs and see if that is what you really want. A little research now can save you money down the road.

For a pet quality chihuahua, you shouldn't pay over $500. And don't pay extra for 'teacups", "miniature", "pocket pups", etc or rare colors. First there is no such size as a teacup and no rare colors.
