purrfectly normal in its purring. head shaking , pawing at it ears or lots of ears flops is a sign of ear mites . at 8 weeks is need to see the vet anyway have them give you something for it . it is not hard to treat but quite common and reoccurs quite a bit in cats. enjoy your pet.

Since you just got this kitten today, you are not all that familiar with it's traits. A cat does NOT just necessarily purr when they are content. They purr when they are stressed out, in pain, in labor--giving birth, many reasons. My guess right now is that a big change has just been made in this little ones life and it's stressed out. As far as the ear twitching--keep an eye on it. This could also indicate stress, it could also mean the cat has ear mites. I assume, as a responsible pet-owner, you will be making a first appointment at the vet for your kitty's first check up and shots. The vet will check out the ears at this time---a literal front-to-rear exam. Good luck with your new kitty and enjoy!

Purring usually means a cat is content - so you have a happy little kitten. The ear shaking could mean something not so good - ear mites or an infection. It should be checked out by a vet.

Researchers have determined (or at least theorize) that cats purr for many reasons other than being content. Fear, illness, injury, and depression are other reasons that cats purr. They purr to comfort themselves as well as showing contentment. My cat purrs when he's scared.

If the inside of his ears are black (looks like dirt), he might have mites; take a cotton ball with a little mineral oil on it and wipe the inside of the ear out. This will clean his ear and kill the mites.

If that doesn't help, take him to the vet for an exam.
