We recently voiced our concerns over our foster child stealing several things just before xmas. It seems there are one or two people who have the impression we were out to see her put into jail. Our initial question was the fact that the police had not paid a visit ( and have still not from thursday last 11th jan)
and we would appreciate some advice and similar experiences.
However, let me make sense of this predicament. The child was with us only over the xmas and new year period on a respite basis.
Her s/worker agreed she could spend xmas eve, day and boxing day with her family. We later found the presents, £230 cash and other items missing..we did not inform the police but her s/worker insisted we do as she had committed numerous crimes before and nothing had been done. (One a very serous one involving a severley disabled adult in her own home) We found out that over xmas she had robbed her own grandmother of cash. The child refused to return to us. Does this help?

You are a glutton for punishment. Since there is no consequences for this child, she is going to continue going down this path. She does not feel she has done anything wrong and of course will refuse to pay back what she took. Plus, she can try to deny what happened.

You should press charges and have the police get involved. The sooner she faces the consequences, the sooner she can try to straighten out her own life. She is heading down the wrong path. Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom before we realize we have problems.

Since she is in foster care she has her own issues to work out as she grows up. At least THIS issue should be addressed and have her get into counseling as well. It would be terrible for her to be in and out of prison for the rest of her life because no one tried to help her when she was younger.
