How does thrust in pounds relate to horsepower? I've seen several different answers.?

Some answers say there is no direct conversion. Some have a pound of thrust worth two horsepower or more.

There is no direct conversion. Power is force times velocity, times, for English units, a conversion factor. The pounds of thrust of the jet engine is the force, but what velocity do you use? The thrust rating is the maximum thrust developed with the engine on a test stand. If you could measure, or estimate, the velocity of the exhaust, you could use that, though not all the exhaust is moving at the same speed. You can also derive power from the amount of mass passing through the engine to produce the thrust. Or, you can calculate the power being developed from the acceleration or climb rate of the aircraft at maximum thrust.

All of these methods have been used at various times, but because they include many variables, some of which are difficult to measure, all such calculations are merely estimates.

By the definition of horsepower, jet engines output 0 horsepower. Horsepower is a measurement of power, while thrust is a measurement of force.

Jet engines are often also rated in Thrust Horsepower. You can calculate the Thrust Horsepower of a reciprocating engine powered propeller though, and you could compare the Thrust Horsepower of the two types of engines.

HP is a unit of power while pound is a unit of weight.
You cant see any direct relationship but you can say like following:

Horsepower is defined as work done over time. The exact definition of one horsepower is 33,000 lb.ft./minute. Put another way, if you were to lift 33,000 pounds one foot over a period of one minute, you would have been working at the rate of one horsepower. In this case, you'd have expended one horsepower-minute of energy.
