The date is February of 2009 when the FCC has mandated that all over-the-air transmissions be digital. (Please note that not all digital transmissions are high definition transmissions, but they can be). Thus, if you have an older TV which does not have the ability to decode digital transmissions, you will either have to buy a decoder box for your existing TV, or buy a new TV. Most TVs sold w/in last couple years have both types of tuners built in so there are no worries if you have a relatively newer set. Plus, if you have cable or satellite, even with an older set, the box that comes with that will most likely be able to decode the signal and send it to your TV. I think people are being greatly deceived regarding this issue so that they buy more new TVs...

True and False. What is going to happen is the new HD signals are going to be processed differently than the current analog signals. Your TV's tuner will not be able to decode them directly but there will be boxes much like the current cable/sat boxes available to decode the HD signal and convert it to analog for the older style TVs.
In many cases you will not even notice when the switch happens. Most cable/sat boxes are already receiving HD signals and converting them to analog.

Depends on what country you live in. Some counties have been slow to embrace HDTV due to the highly inflated prices. This has caused some governments to backpeddle and extend the time of expiry. Australia is one such country It has been given an extension to the year 2013.
Until manufacturers get organized with producing more affordable TV's HDTV here will not happen for the majority. Too much invested in several TV's in the house and even the shed and caravan

it truly is a company date that by Feb 2009 all analog television broadcast in the U. S. will quit. there is no way which will substitute, it truly is a regulation exceeded by Congress and signed by the president. It ability a tremendous type of money to the gov't even as this happens, so that they gained't substitute it now. All television stations after which will broadcast digital alerts. it doesn't count number no matter in case your television is tube, liquid crystal reveal plasma or inspite of, it truly is going to opt for a digital tuner to %. up broadcast television. late-type instruments have such tuners outfitted-in, yet till now instruments, even HDTV instruments, do no longer (they are referred to as "HD waiting"). you would possibly want to then choose an exterior digital tuner field to receive proclaims. they are meant to be obtainable at low fee (the regulation contain gov't subsidies to minimize the fee of this field). connect the field, and any television will artwork only nice; in reality, even on previous tube TVs the photo will seem extra useful than previously. finally, in case you get your television from cable or satellite tv for pc, this gained't impression you in any respect.

True. Congress passed a law that all TV stations will be given Digital channels, and the Analog ones will be shut down. You can still use the old TV for your VCR and existing DVD, and while Satillite and Cable still transmit analog, but I don't know how long that will last.

That is for US only BTW. Whether that law gets changed as 2008 approaches is anybody's guess.
