Our society portray thin skinny pale looking models out there, wearing the sexiest outfits and recieving the biggest names. Teenagers these days have a normal weight which is around 23%-25% more weight than models. This leads to bad dieting and other bad habits. Should designers be able to only choose ladies who are 5'9 and weigh at 110 lbs.? Even when designers work best with thin people.

Does the fashion industry have to be held responsible for the unhealthy habits of models?

Well the reason designers choose such tall, slender models is because it's way easier to create beautiful clothing & have it hang beautifully on a flat/ slender model. Think about it. It's not that they have some weird prejudice against people with fat on their bodies, since a lot of designers themselves are "curvacious" haha. It makes sense that they would want a blank canvas & the fact that EVERY model holds near the same body type, it's just easier to hang their creations on those tall, flat people.

Designers want people to look at the clothing & admire their artistic talents, not gawk at the anorexic models. Why do people always assume there some type of evil conspiracy running society?

It makes economic sense to use women, flat & tall in shape, to hang their clothing on so it all looks good (since there's no real variation in models) & it's an even playing field. To have each piece of clothing look almost exactly the same on every model.

Designers wanting a blank, consistant canvas for their art (clothing) simply makes economic sense: it's not some kind of evil conspiracy.

it's very bad for all women whether their a child or an adult for society to portray these models the way they do. the designers are making their clothes a lot smaller and putting a lot more pressure on all of us ladies. the sad truth is that the designers don't care what the risks are to our society's health as long as they're still lining their pockets with money. more and more models are dying from this and they look at them as expendable because they'll just find another thin girl.

I was watching the news the other morning and Matt Lauer was intervewing this new committee that is against skinny models. They were actually talking about holding workshops and seminars just for models to help them with their body image and to make them realize how huge of an influence they are to young girls (screw just young girls - those dames influence me!! I should know better!!). In any case, it looked like good people doing good work and I hope that they can start to make a difference in the fashion/modeling world.

Those models are very bad role models for girls in my opinion. That day I was watching the news and they were showing a video of starving kids in Africa, and they look just like those stupid models. I also noticed that there isn't much difference between the bodies of aneroxic people and those stupid models. I don't know how those models' bodies are considered beautiful. Some girls who aren't even overweight might commit suicide because they are being teased by girls who look like those models. And who are to blame? Those stupid models.

It is a terrible thing to see, models whose ribcages are showing...Since the death of one of our models, who was by the way anorexic, the fashion world has changed the way they see some of our models, and have opted for a slightly healthier look. The fashion world does have a tremendous impact on our teens, and the way they think they want to look, so I hope that we will start to see a difference in our fashion world soon.

The stupid women's magazines that crap-on about age and beauty. Who ARE the people writing that stuff, they're not normal and yet they make millions of dollars for their companies. Now it's happening in Australia with the TV awards, Football Awards nights - I couldn't give a toss who was wearing what. I thought Football was all about the player, not his girlfriend's dress. It's crap!

I think designers pick those anorexic-looking girls because they make only 1 outfit per girl and it uses less fabric!!!
