I don't know about hero, but I don't think he's a whack job. He's simply a man of deeply held beliefs that sticks to them, even if the cost is that it hurts his career. Whatever else you might say about him, you do have to admire a man who will stick to his principals, even if it costs him. I wish more people were like that.
