I have 3, 7-month old male kittens who have been fighting recently to the point where they have scratched each other, not too badly but they pull fur and claws are drawn...they are due to be fixed next week...has this happened to anyone?..the vet thinks they might be fighhting for leadership/dominance.

Your vet could possibly be right, but kittens still have that wild instincts (like lion cubs) the play fighting (which I think it is) is just a method of techiques for uses in later in life... which of course they will grow out of when they get older...especially if they are going to be indoor cats. Being neutered should also calm them down some. It'll take time... my aunts neutered cat was an A$$ up to a year old.

Well, duh.....I'm happy to hear that your vet is THIS smart. Is he/she smart enough to neuter these guys? Of course it's a leadership/dominance/territory thing. In the cat world, there always has to be an Alpha Male. They will fight over this until the remaining 2 back-off. And, waiting this long (by 7 months old, all 3 of these guy's testes have fallen--as in, you can see them), the neutering may help a little. But, most likely, the fighting is going to continue until the "Pecking-Order" has been established. If one is much more aggressive than the other 2, you may want to confine him to a cat carrier when the fighting gets out-of-hand. Good luck to you and "The Boys".

That is exactly what they are doing. Male cats don't like to hang out with each other too much. They are not that far removed from wild cats. In Lion prides there is only one alpha male and the rest had better look out! Once your cats have established their order and they have been fix/declawed, things will be a little more normal. I would not expect them to be best friends but they will tolerate each other. Separate litter trays will help ease the tension too and you're less likely to find any "presents" behind your furniture!

sounds about right. We just got another puppy and they fight all the time. But they fight more, when they are in the house and around me. When i put them outside, they are fine. I wouldn't worry too much...unless they are really hurting each other.

i would say that's about right, they are just sorting out who is the leader, don't worry it should calm down a bit when they are all done! good luck
