I sucked my thumb until I was 5. Then I just gave it up. And it doesn't ruin their teeth. Genetics determine whether or not your teeth will be crooked. Thumb sucking and pacifiers have very little effect on your teeth. She'll stop on her own. My friend's little sucked her thumb. The family came up with a code word to say to her and she would have to stop sucking for 10 minutes. That worked pretty well for them, but she was 4 years old at that time.

My sister used to suck her thumb and mum tried everything, from putting the nail bitting stopper nail polish to hot pepper and nothing worked, she eventually grew out of that habbit (nearly in her teens when she finally stopped)!!. She is now 30 and pregnant her baby is doing the same thing - as what we could see on the ultra sound the baby was sucking her thumb!!!
I'd not worry, just let your daughter enjoy her habbit, it's not a bad one and she'll eventually grow out of it. The more you try to stop her the more she will do it. Take no notice and she'll give it up.

My first child was sucking her thumb in the womb... I am serious. I tried evrything possible. I put Nail biter stuff that tasted nasty on her thumb , I put hot sause, Tabasco, Lemon juice, Vinegar, I told her all kinds of stories about kids teasing her, on and On and on. We tried all of the normals, Then we went to crazy things, There is a butterfly device that a dentist can fit to your childs mouth, My daughter bent it to shape to her thumb! If they really want to they will find a way. My daughter is now 12 years old, She quit sucking her thumb in first grade ..... The kids tweased her and she just was bothered enough to stop all by herself.. All that worrying for nothing. Her teeth are fine and she hasn't been teased since. Good luck but, sometimes they have to deciede for themselves

I saw a guy sitting in his van at traffic lights sucking his thumb - he looked about 25 years old !
My kids both sucked their thumbs and didn't stop till they went to school - I told them their ears wouldn't work if they sucked their thumb at school and they wouldn't be able to hear what the teacher was saying. (partly true as they seemed to go if into a daydream when sucking). This worked for during the day.
They both still sucked at night and had to pay a visit to orthodentist for a little brace which they wore at night - it had a ridge which made it uncomfortable to thumb suck.
They both have beautiful teeth.

We put Nail biter on our 5 yr. old and that worked. Every time she went to suck her thumb, she would get a taste of it and quit. It didn't take long and she quit sucking her thumb for good. Nail Hardener will also work if you can't find the other.

Give her till she is two, and then their is this product out there that you can put on her nails, not sure what it is called and it just taste nasty is all, and it will kick the habit. I did it with my son. Do not waite past two I did and his teeth are growing in purtruding and all messed up, and it is a direct cause of the thumbsucking. It only took a week

my parents used the nail polish, bandaids and so on and it just made me want to do it more...i had a pediatrician tell me once that if you ignore the habit, they generally quit on their own...if you acknowledge them doing it, it kind of tells them, hey i am getting attention for doing this so i will keep doing it
my son got this weird habit of picking his lip to the point where a huge blister would form...it was his way of soothing himself...i asked the doctor what to do because i tried pushing his hand away each time or sitting him down after he would do it...he said the more you pay attention to the habit, the more they will do it...
i know its hard to ignore but try ignoring it for a bit...i am 27 years old and i remember my mom telling me that i would have buckteeth from sucking my thumb, completely untrue...you might have to just let her work it out and quit on her own

My parents taped cotton balls to my thumb to stop me from sucking on it, and it took some time but it worked. I wouldn't let it continue forever though because otherwise she might end up needing all sorts of orthedotics work done because of it (I did).

Ask your dentist. It's a source of comfort to her. I wouldn't worry
about it. Have you tried a pacifier? She will stop in her own time.
I always say, if she's not walking down the aisle with her thumb in her mouth, who cares?
