Christians are admonished to do this at James 5:13-16--"Is anyone among you being persecuted? Let him keep praying. Is there anyone who is cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is there anyone among you who is sick? Let him call the congregation elders and have them pray over him, as they grease him with oil in the name of Jehovah. Then this prayer of faith will rescue the weak one and Jehovah will make him well. Also, if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. So, admit your sins to each other and pray that each one of you will be healed, because prayer has a lot of power when it’s working through a righteous man."

I collect them. I've got lovely display boxes full of prayers and the ones that are doubles are good for trading at prayer swap meets! Oh the things I've found out about Angels, Saints, and Martyr's, it boogles the mind. I think this prayer collecting is going to catch on big time. I bet one day there will be a show like the Antiques road show devoted to rare prayers!

My question is - Hasn't god already noticed this person needs help without any prayer from anyone ?

And - Will prayers change god's mind about whether he will help someone or not? If not, what's the point of the prayer outside of personal satisfaction anyway?

People asked for prayer in hopes that the many may get Gods attention. The thing that most do not understand is that it is they have to pray for themselves. God wants you to pray. He wants you to ask for help if you need it. A good father always wants to help his children, so with God.

So many non-thought out answers. GOD IS ALL POWERFUL. God doesn't need 13.7 people to pray for one thing before God hears it. GOD IS ALL KNOWING, God hears every pray whether one person or a billion people are making it. GOD ALSO HAS "A PLAN" and GOD EXISTS OUTSIDE OF TIME, so why in GOD's name would he change his plan for you?

God: "Gee well, my divine plan for the universe was going this way, but since Sue and Bertha got the whole church to pray, I think I'll let Timmy live after all."

IT'S NONSENSE.

They "believe." That's it. Insert answer about faith, blind obedience, mysterious ways, etc.

Every study to date has shown that group prayer has no effect on a person's health. If it worked, how fast would our companies quit paying health insurance and hire a prayer department? I'd be the first to stop my $800 a year insurance payments if I could substitute it with prayer!!

Okay, I'll be a meanie and tell my honest thoughts on this. I think it's a way for the asker to tell everyone what is going on in their life (people love to share!) so they can get attention while under the premise of just asking for prayers. There, I said it. Let the thumbs down come as they may.

Thie Bible says: Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him annointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up... James 5:14-15
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. Matthew 18:16

God answering prayers must be like playing the lottery. The more prayers you have the better your odds are.

People ask to be prayed for, because they haven't studied their bibles enough in Romans 8 as well as Ephesians and Colossians to see that prayer is conversation with the Lord Jesus Christ, who has already given us all blessings in heavenly places.

Down here on this cursed earth, with riots, anger, gangs, war, violence, etc....we're SUPPOSED to go through problems, we're SUPPOSED to go through issues, we're SUPPOSED to go through financial issues, health problems, fights, car trouble, accidents, etc. etc. etc.

To pray FOR God to "help with the light bill this month because money is short" or "help Billy with his infected toenail so he can play soccer on Friday".....is a misunderstanding of prayer totally.

Approach prayer saying, (if anything) "THANK YOU for this opportunity to work more to pay the light bill, THANK YOU for this opportunity to encourage little Billy..."

Prayer is a conversation of thanking the Lord, not finding an opportunity of giving him your shopping list of woes and problems, and then asking your friends to join in the prayers of wants and needs if what you've asked isn't coming fast enough!

Christ died FOR your sins on calvary's cross. Believe in his shed blood as a once and final payment for your sin debt unto God, and put no trust nor faith in your "good deeds", religion(s), circumstances, church attendance, feelings, family traditions, supposed "holy or religious saving" laws or ordinances, self serving prayers, etc.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved! (Acts 16:31)
