China has long had military ambitions, except today, thanks to the money the US pours into China, it can expand militarily and become a serious regional threat, or perhaps even a global threat.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the non-aggression pact they have with Russia. History tells us that China and Russia will never co-exist for very long. Already, there are border issues between the two and these usually escalate into a more tenuous relationship.

The biggest threat we can anticipate with China is the issue over Taiwan. China wants control of Taiwan, and Taiwan wants nothing to do with China, as a parent. The US is caught in the middle with its commitment to Taiwan to protect it from outside aggression. We also have this agreement with Japan.

The counter balance that China has against the US is N.Korea. It has learned to play this angle like a violin. Except today, Kim Jong Il is getting too big for his britches and difficult for even China to control. China isn't overly pleased with having a neighbor next door, armed with nuclear devices.

China has many scenarios to consider in its quest for military build up. Hopefully, they believe as we do in the US, to walk softly, but carry a big stick.

China always wanted to be the super power of Asia. In a way it is the strongest country militarily and has a tremendous growth in economy compare to it's Asian neighbours, though, India, Koreas and Pakistan all these countries are eyeing this strongest military position, China is way ahead of all it's neighbours. At the same time China have a big land which needed to be defended from it's enemies.China fought many wars with India and it's borders always remain highly secured. China with a Hugh man power is one of the biggest Army in the world. It has a missile defence system and one of the major exporter of weapons in the world. China recently got in to the fighter jet manufacturing and successfully built fighter jets with the help of Israeli technology. It will start exporting fighter jets soon. China is economically capable of spending a lot for it's military.

China is expanding it's military to defend it's power not only in Asia, it's future plans includes becoming one of the super powers in the world.

1. So that it can protect its territory, prevent Taiwan independent and deter US from interfering.
2. So that it wont be bullied by other nations (like what USA did to China before China became a nuclear power)
3. So that it wont experience being invaded by the Japanese again.
4. The Chinese military is small and backward compared to USA and Japan. So it is logical to expand, since China has 1.3 billion people to protect.
5. So that it can contribute to UN peacekeeping force (Currently, China is being criticized for not contributing enough to the peacekeeping force)
6. It is normal to expand military, as the Chinese economy expand.

Great nations have great militaries, and China is growing from a regional power into a world player. It's not necessarily a bad thing as long as they don't try to take Taiwan or muscle any democracies in that region. Besides, China is starting to figure out that communism is a dead end.

There is a global movement toward control of resources; such as, oil, gas, pipelines, countries, etc. The economies of China and India, among others, are expanding and the U.S. is forced to compete for the resources. When countries compete, the military plays a role.

It's not so much expanding as it is modernizing. Though the Chinese have to expand some as they now have huge national interest in the middle east and South America. They operate the Panama canal now. They have close oil dealings with Iran and Venezuela. This is the same reasons we grew our forces to the size they are today to protect our interest.

that is all about hegemony. there became once 2 superpowers two decades in the past, that were the U. S. and Soviet Union. the U. S. tried to bypass for chilly conflict with the Soviet to make the monetary gadget of Soviet bankrupt which consequences interior the separation of the Soviet international locations in 1991. that is continuously been so logical to have in common words a million maximum powerful man or woman that controls each thing in this international, somewhat of having 2 diverse maximum powerful individual, one declaring A, the different declaring B. that is going to create a more effective polarized international. ideally, all the international's international places have an same equivalent status, with the United usa because the vast mom or the Police of the international controlling each thing. yet all of us understand, the UN itself is powerless without america and different greatest donor to the UN. so for that reason, US play because the "appearing" enormous mom of the international.
