PC World sales man talk nonsense all the time. I work in IT and would never buy anything from PC World. They draw you into the shop with good prices on certain items. Everything else in the shop is totally over priced.
Vista will be better than XP, but I have used Vista and did not think that there was that big a change from XP. XP is a great operating system however if you are buying a new system I WOULD advised going for Vista as its the new kid on the block and will have a longer shelf life than XP. Vista has greater support for home media and has all the functionality of XP Media Centre Edition.

First of all, go to pcworld.com and there you can find the section on Vista and what it will be like. Seems pcworld says that you need to upgrade from basic Vista to the higher one Express Vista, something like that, to really get the full value of it. Of course, ask the price for the full Vista too. Now remember. You can buy a computer without Windows then pay $100 to add it, or just buy a computer with windows installed and save the money. I would look around for a computer with the FULL INSTALLATION of Vista to see if it is any cheaper. Usually is. Now before you buy a new computer, make sure it is Vista ready. The Vista computer requires faster hardware. pcworld.com will explain this. I will wait and read articles to familiarize myself with Vista before I buy a new computer in about 6 months.
Before you buy shop around. On pricegrabber.com is a search engine for looking up stuff. Also on pcworld.com, ALWAYS has a list of the latest top 5 or 10 of items, from laptops to cameras, that they test. Use this as a guide to what you may buy.

I guess it depends :-)
IF you accept the premise that XP was an improvement over 3.x (and it was), and IF you want the Windows operating system to be relevant for Windows-based applications, THEN Vista should be a strong consideration. That said, if I were you, I'd get a machine that was "Vista-ready," but came with XP, all the same. You should never get the first release of any software, but rather wait until the bug-fixes come out.

consumer-friendly answer to this.attempt interpreting the tip consumer contract for Vista on the microsoft cyber web web site. it is how a tech guy advised me approximately Vista."its like paying for a automobile and being advised once you ought to use it,and what stations you pays attention to on the radio". make your very own techniques up. Google has each and all of the solutions ;)

No my friend, MS VISTA is not just hype, it's really made to change an average user's 'computing' (not your coffee drinking) experience, & i should say, not just change, but completely redefine it. Ever thought of viewing all the different applications being opened in front of you in a really cool 3D view.... OR ever really thought out of the box named WINDOWS XP (i m not complaining, XP works really well). Bt try n open your eyes & mind for the next generation of computing experience for a common computer user like you n me...
If i were in your place, i would not have liked to be a step behind the rest of the world, who has just started to enjoy the awsomely vast possibilities MS VISTA has in store for them. The possibilities are endless, therefore i would not even try to list them here. Just be carefree if you are finding it difficult to make up your mind to Buy this product or not, coz its just MADE FOR YOU........ (as microsoft spokespersons said on VISTA's launching ceremony)

wait for the hype to fizzle
there are many things in life that demand more attention than Vista
If you can run your business with Windows XP, why worry?
It is what you can do and really need, not the fizzle of Vista that you want to pay for with your hard earned dolllars

I'm not convinced yet that Vista will be bug-free for quite a while. I shan't be thinking of getting it for 6 - 12 months at least.
Personally, I don't see what more it would do for me anyway, other than keep me poor.

I've been using it for a couple of months now. I wouldn't say it's 20 times better, however, I do find it to be :
Faster
More intuitive
& much more secure
Here is a link to other reasons to upgrade :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa905106.aspx
FYI : I'll never go back to XP Pro ... I'm hooked on Vista

what all the other participants say is absolutely right
5 major security holes have already been discovered in the freshly-released vista
a much better choice would be the Mac OSX
it's kinda expensive, but worth ev'ry penny
