I was robbed on new years eve, and I caught the guy and had him arrested, he has sold all of my stuff (I wasn't insured) and the police are completely useless!! He is now constantly harrassing me saying he wont stop until I drop the charges against him. He has threatened to kill me and "cut up" my wife and two little girls.

How can I deal with this without putting myself at risk with the police?? Only yesterday he was outside my flat with about 10 of his so called "mates" and they were hurling abuse at me and stones at my windows. The police did nothing because they had no evidence.

He got someone else to beat up my brother whilst he watched, the police arrested the attacker and then released them the next day!

What can I do, its having serious effects on mine and my families mental health.

You should be able to get a restraining order from the judge, but then you also should be able to get the police to keep him away from you. "No evidence" is flimsy if you are a witness and willing to swear under oath to what you saw and heard. That IS evidence, unless they are saying they really do not believe you.

Speak to the judge who arraigned the guy, or to the prosecuting attorney if the judge is inaccessible. They should get you a restraining order for him to keep away from you or face a charge for violating the order which involves criminal penalties.

You have rights not to be harassed like this. But you may have to be quietly insistent in order to get those rights upheld.

Sounds awful! Are there any other witnesses to these incidents apart from you or your family, ie an independent person, who can verify what you are saying? A neighbour or local neighbourhood watch?

Is your area covered by the town CCTV? Or maybe the routes that these people took to come to your house is covered. Could you tell the police this or call the council to see if you can contact CCTV direct. Sometimes they are run by private companies for the council. If you have video footage of the attack then the Police can act. Or perhaps you can borrow a video camera yourself from a friend or colleague and secretly video them next time.

Is there a racial/disability or other overtone to this harassment? If so, the Police should have a unit which deals with these types of crimes. Even if not, this person has made threats to kill you - that should be enough for the Police to act, surely.

Do you know where this person lives? If they are council or housing association residents, you could contact them and advise of this situation, especially if you have an independent witness or video footage. There may be other complaints about them and the council can apply for an ASBO against them.

I know it is really hard for you and your family but try and keep a daily log of what's happened so far with timings, who was involved, what happened etc. This will help with any dealings with CCTV, council or Police. Try approaching your local courts as well as they may be able to suggest some sort of injunction that you can apply for.

Good luck to you xx

She is enjoying some part of this i think. Either the stirring you up and the attention she receives from you or the cat and mouse game she has going with this man. Or worse both. If a woman really wants a man to leave her alone all she would have to do is make a few phone calls. Or go and talk to a director at her school. Even the hint of harassment would get them jumping to find out what's going on with the man bothering her. The police are the police for a reason. It doesn't sound like she has done any real thing on her own to get rid of this man. I would suggest telling her your concerned and want to protect her but that she needs to call the police if she feels threatened. Or the school director. Tell her you're there for her and care. If any of this is real you will have shown her that you care and want to help which will make a world of difference to her. If this is a bunch of drama she has cooked up to get you going then telling her this will show her that your ready for her to either shut up or put up. Meaning do something to stop him or stop crying about it.

If nothing is being done by the police / counsil then you have no other option than to take matters into your own hands. This shitbag won't listen to a restraining order or an asbo. Even if he does it might not stop his mates. If it was me id get someone to kick the living crap out of him, thats if you don't want to do it yourself. I know violence is not always the answer but sometimes it's the only language these arseholes understand. Whatever you do i hope you and your family are free from this situation very son.

This is disgusting and I'm amazed the police have not arrested him. You must write to your M.P and also get a restraining order out against him, although by the sounds of it, this Will not stop him and his friends. Don't drop the charges against him, because this will only cause him to harass you more Tell the police he's armed every time you see him hanging around your place, that`will get the armed response unit round double quick, they will be pissed off if they don't find a weapon Tell them "well I'm sure i saw a gun" they cannot charge you of wasting police time for making a mistake. this may well put pressure on him and give you time to get response from your M.P. Good luck mate you need it.

As he is trying to intimidate you, that is attempting to pervert the course of justice and interfering with witnesses.

If the officer dealing with thios does nothing, go above his head.

Try to photograph his mates if they come back, they are guilty of the same offences.

Threatning to kill or inflict serious harm is also a serious offence. The police should take this very seriously. He has been charged with a violent offence already.

Yes, do go to the press, this may provoke a response from the police.

Good luck.

This is so difficult mate, I feel for you really. The picture I get is of a fella who tries to live within the law up against a nutcase with no regard for others. I take it you are in good old Britain, cos in other countries, I think you might be better protected.

The law here is not to protect the majority, but for the protection of the poor criminal. If you hit him, you will find yourself locked up and out of a job in no time...or worse. The law loves to come down like a ton of bricks on a 'normal' person who steps out of line, but not on a career criminal.

Rough as it seems, I would have to put my kids first and maybe think about dropping the charges. What will you gain by seeing him punished? (probably a few hours community service or a fine?). You will probably get nothing out of it in terms of compensation.

Sad, but until the Government and judiciary decide to get tough with criminals, and put law abiding citizens first, you have no chance.

One positive point, people who make those kind of threats tend not to carry them out, so don't panic too much.

I really wish you well in whatever you decide. Good luck.

First of all don't blow off the cops yet..You will need them again!
If he is threatening you on the phone..go to the nearest radio shack or best buy and pick yourself up a telephone recorder..If he is verbalizing the death threats...get a digital recorder! Tape him!!!!!Definitely get a restraining order....Evidence is key here so make sure you get some...Don't take things into your own hands..It could end up costing you! If you live in a state where concealed carry is legal..Go get a gun..learn properly how to use it and keep it on you at all times..That way if he tries to hurt you or your family..You can shoot him in self defense!...If you already have a gun in the house..Keep with in your reach...He tries to come in again..You take care of the problem...Aim well!
GO GET A RESTRAING ORDER! that way the next time he is around you or your family he will be arrested!

This is witness intimidation and if he is arrested for this he should be remanded in custody until the trial date because it is deemed more serious than the initial offence.
If your complaints to the police are not being taken seriously then you need to demand to see the duty Inspector and explain your concerns etc, tell him/her that you will be forwarding a complaint to the Independant Police Complaints Authority should the matter not be dealt with immediately - this should make them take action pretty swiftly!

This seems to be the Yob culture thats happening all over the country. Contact the police again, but go higher than the officer that dealt with the original complaint. Tell them you want something done about this nutter now, if they dont tell them you will go to your MP and the National Press. Bad publicity is something they wont be looking for, it may spur them into helping.
Good Luck
