what do you know about the kabbalah religion.

OK.

I know there's some odd "pop" version of it, which I know nothing about.

As an occultist, I've studied the Tree of Life, and have found it useful as a sort of organizational method of thought, and I know people who swear by meditating on the various Sephiroth...but as a religion, I don't think you can really remove it from Judaism.

Kabbalah is not a religion.

It is the esoteric and mystical heart of Judaism.

Pick up "The Essential Kabbalah" by Daniel C. Matt. It's pretty easy to understand.
