If you want to get stuck in the desert stealing oil for Bush, then go right ahead.

It is very honorable! But what you want to ask yourself is whether it's best for you and everyone concerned. A Military education is great for those that can't afford it any other way but if you are an honors student with no trouble paying for college it might be better to get into a Top College for your education. Also, you always have the option of joining the military after you get an excellent college degree somewhere and you would probably be able to enter as an officer.
The other question is, if you have no trouble paying for college would the military scholarship that you would be getting be taking it away from someone else who really needed it?

The Marines is not the place to go if you are serious about getting an education while you are active duty. Any of the branches will give you the GI Bill, but go with Air Force or find a Navy job that isn't ship based, they will give you more time to actually pursue a degree. And in the Navy you can take absentee courses while out at sea.
Contrary to popular belief, there are many, many things you can do in the military that won't get you near any combat.

No it's bad to go into active duty. What's the point in thinking about college. If you go into the marines, you might not live long enough. Just go to a regular college. How old are you? Aren't you tired of listening to how many young people are dying in that war? And for what? Just so President Bush can look good! I see his daughters haven't signed up for the war yet. It's probably because they stay to drunk to hold a pistol! I'm just one of those people that feel that this war is going to be just like the previous wars we've had. Nothing is going to be solved but we'll have a lot of bodies to bury.

I would recommend joining the reserves. You wouldn't get too many classes in while on active duty, the most I've heard of was earning about a semester or two over the four years in the Marines. In the reserves you will get the best of both worlds and you won't have to live on a base.
PS: Don't worry about the danger, you'll live longer.

There are many honorable ways to serve your country without going into the military. There are plenty of kids who use the military as a last option, but you don't need to. Go to college and serve your fellow Americans in whatever field you choose.

Well, I think that that would be a good desission on your part because if that is what you really want to do then follow your heat. Your right it is dangerous but you you have to take your chances and if that is what you want to do then I say go for it then. That is something that I have been thinking seriously about. The only thing that is holding me back is that I am scared about going to iraq. But I guess that is something that I will just have to get over. I say go for it and do what your heart tells you to do.
Good Luck.

Its not good or bad just a different option, life is easier in the service is an officer but you don't get to generally do the same sorta "cool ****" as us enlisted. It all depends on what you want to do. I was in the same boat as you I had free collage after high school but decided to enlist and go to school later. The service will be a life changing event for you no matter what.

You could do that if you wanted to. I'm going to college and I'm in the USMCR. I want to go to college, but i guess you could try it the way your thinking, although it can get complicated with the deployments to the middle east. I'm getting deployed soon and i know my college education is going to come to a pause soon. my advice is to find an active duty marine and talk to him about that. Dont go to a recruiter yet, go to a recruiter if your sure what you want to do. Remember recruiters are salesmen .

No bad to try to do college while in the Marine Corp.
However, it is tough very tough to keep up.
If I was do it over I would serve as enlisted get out than get a degree. You are older more focus than others in college.
Or you can go ROTC too.
Many choices so good luck Semper Fi
Navy corpsman "Doc" to my fellow Marines.

College isn't for everyone. But while you are on active duty you can hae money put aside for your college education. Also while on active duty you can take college courses.
