Hi there gritting or grinding of teeth is a comon name given to BRUXISM in dental, anyways i read quite a few funny anwers but hey i will save this for last......?
Bruxism is aproblem which still not completely understood there are many reasons for that and belive me its gonna take an hr to type it,i will just breif u with some.
1)most common is stress
2)sleep apnea 3)history of medical prob's like hypoglycemia etc
4)irregular teeth 5)hyperactive tense musculature 6)ppl on certain anti -psycotic medication 7)suppresed anger or fear
8)trauma to the TMJ etc atc etc...
Sorry could have given u more but i have listed few of the most comon, the only way out is to go to dentist with a good knowledge of TMD/TMJ prob's.PLZ figure out what's causing bruxism just dont do what ppl tell u too.
As i said keeping u'r self happy will also solve this prob and it want cost u a buck....so read those remaining ans from other ppl.
what i feel is it can be either u'r ireegular teeth OR tense musculature....?since u have given such a small record its diff to explain the treatment.
take care

Could be a few things, either you dream a lot, you are under stress, or tense, also some people just have a tendency to bite hard when they sleep, sometimes all the time, try to see if you are unconsciously doing this at other time. Learn to try to relax.

You are grinding your teeth if it includes noise and it could be a factor of lots of things. Stress is the main one. You need to have a night guard made or you will eventually wear your teeth down to nubs.

You may have signs of it when awake. Feeling like you did not get any rest, headaches, jaw pain. Teeth problems. Go get a mouth piece, it will be better in the long run.

I do that too. Bad. I have ground my teeth almost flat in the back. You can buy a nightguard at the pharmacy but i had one made at the dentist office. They said they dont really know why people do it, but its not uncommon. It has caused me to have tmj so i would get it fixed asap.

Yes please go get a mouth piece. They sell them at all wal marts. I have TMJ Syndrome for this and it's not fun. I can't have surgery because their are to many risks, I just have to deal with it because mine is so bad. The Oral Surgeon said I'll deal with this for the rest of my life.
Grinding my teeth and clinching my teeth caused this Syndrome.

Mostly stress. May be you are angry at few people or incidents. I used to do that. I stopped after getting some help for stress. Consult your doctor, relax and go to bed with happy thoughts and you will be fine.
