What are your thoughts on gangs and how they have impacted our culture?

Gangs, unfortunately, will always be around. People feel a need to "fit in" somewhere. And as long as parents let their children run the streets unsupervised, there will be gangs forming. It all starts and ends with parenting. The cycle just continues until someone stops it. The children that were raised poorly, will raise their children poorly. Our society has such a poor system of values these days. Seems as though ethic, morals and manners aren't even taught any more.

You would be surprised how many "adults", and I use that term lightly, are still actively "gang banging". I am talking well into their 30's and some even longer. What example are they giving their children? Their children then teach it to their children.

I, as a police officer, have to deal with these thugs everyday of my life, whether I am at work or not. I cannot walk outside of my house without seeing one, and hoping they don't recognize me while I am with my family. Someone already said it, but they are domestic terrorists. I do the best I can, everyday, to put as many of them behind bars. It is a never ending fight.

Gangs are nothing more than Urban terrorists and thugs. They appeal to weak minded people who need a sense of " belonging" to something. One person in each gang has the power over all the followers, sounds like communism don't it?

Many bangers have a problem is they ever want to leave a gang, they find out they cant, except feet first. You need to see what some of these people look like after they were "jumped" into a gang.

Big negative impact on the area where gangs run free.

I totally agree that gangs are detrimental to society, but you must understand that gangs are so proliferant in places such as the U.S. for the very simple reason that there are many poor and unhappy people in the country.

People only join these gangs because they come from poor backgrounds and are socially maladjusted. They join these gangs because it's the second best thing to having friends, and because they know no different.

So to all my fellow netsters above saying that gangs should be eradicated, yes, they should, but the only effective way to do that is to make the country a better place in which to live by redistribution of wealth and many other techniques which I wish I knew.

The happier people are, the less inclined they will be to join gangs and to participate in gang violence.

A gang is not much different than a business, they just play by different rules. In some places they negatively impact our culture by terrorizing a neighborhood.

People always assume a gang is a group of trouble makers. I used to be in a gang and we were just good friends who hang around with each other !
I don't care about gangs as long as they don't do any thing to affect our society.

Gangs are the empowerment of thugs by concentrating their numbers. They are bugs and a drain on society. Laws should be passed to double or triple standard criminal punishments when it is considered gang activity.

Well gangs are made up of young adults who do not value the lives of others (sad how they got there, but they are there), so them killing each other is no sweat off my back..it is when they get innocent people involved in the crossfire that really makes me mad!

they all need to be shot in the face. i'm so sick of them all. they are ignorant and a waste of space. fighting over stuff that isnt theirs in the first place!
