Do not say religion, most of the worlds religions have never caused any misery, it is only the mono-theist religions, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and, if you go back far enough, the mono-theist sect started by Pharaoh Ikhnaton, that cause misery. All other faiths teach respect for other peoples ways and Gods.

Bullets don't kill people. People kill people.

Religion doesn't cause misery. People cause misery.

Considering all the misery that alcohol, abusive drug use, and casual sex cause, isn't it time we moved on? That's a good idea. Let's everybody just be better and we'll have utopia.

No matter how high we evolve, this fantasy will never happen because people feel bad when they do wrong things and become afraid to die. No Brave New World for you.

Considering all the misery nationalism causes...isn't it time we moved from the idea of nationality and country?

Humans can always find something to disagree about and draw lines of us and them.

That is what we need to overcome - the us and them mentality - not religion.

You talk about all the "alleged" Misery that religion causes but deny any that secularism causes, look at all the violence on T.V. and in the movies, the glorification of immorality, making it to look 'ok".
Considering all the misery secularism causes, isn't it time we moved on from it's hypocrisy?

I just asked a question, but I took the opposite position. I am an atheist, but I know that this requires a type of thinking that doesn't accept supernatural mumbo jumbo explanations. Many people can't understand thought based on reality. And some people are very ignorant; do you want them to think it's okay for them to have premarital sex?
I actually believe religion can serve a good purpose, as it can tell gullible and ignorant people how to behave. Left to their own vices, they reproduce frequently and end up on Maury paternity test shows.

Humanity, man I'm a human and let me tell you that is one stupid animal. Why he can not fend for himself a human must get an ok nod from others to do something out of the norm. Humanity in humans, the human have keep records of there achievements and just by there records you can see they are still living in the past. Humanity is a dumb word just look around you, look at all the stupid people we choose to lead us and that's not the best of it we do it repeatedly and then BIT*H. Take money, credit and commence away from humans and most of them will die in a short time.

10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.

If the world would turn to God, there wouldn't be much of the misery that is produced from humanism, murder, rape, theft, greed, jealousy.

religion was never the cause. it was only the excuse for fundamental human ignorance expressed as hate, greed and ignorance. unfortunately we will not root out these problems by rooting out religion. but I agree with you that we have to think about what religion actually means and where to put it in society.
