If there was a nuclear attack, I would rather be near a strike than die slowly of radiation poisoning.
And it wouldn't be thousands of nuclear warheads as one would take out most of London, so that would be a waste.
But to answer your question, I would imagine that it was a test of an old style air raid style of siren that Is used mainly for flood defences now.

I live in a Metropolitian area about 30 miles from Offut Airforce Base (the former SAC HQ). If the Russians would attack, my chances of survival are slim to none.

It is a natural basic instinct in any animal, including humans to try to survive when facing death, it has always been that way. Has our intelligence and knowledge of nuclear weapons over-ridden that basic desire or would we still automatically `run for cover`?

The president is obligated to protect to the best of his ability. 1950's sirens, Madd and all the other things were the best they could do. The God Ron Reagan started "star wars" as technology allowed for other paths..... In some cases it would have given you just enough time to kiss your loved ones one last time and I would say that was worth it..........................

I agree with you, I certainly wouldn't want to know what was going on. Ignorance is bliss so they say. No need to say goodbye to loved ones etc, especially if you believe in life after death. God help us all.

No aspirations of survival here. Since the starwars system was scrapped by the Dems, there will be no hope.

I've heard it only takes one atomic bomb to wreck havoc on the earth's eco system. I agree with you - get it over fast.
