Yeah, one time my best friend and I went away for a weekend and we stayed in a hotel. It was raining and we couldn't go out and we were bored, so pulled out the Gideon Bible that was in the drawer in the hotel room, and we opened it to random pages to see if God had any messages for us. It didn't work, though, because all the verses we found were depressing, such as "And then King Solomon died." or "God will punish the wicked and throw His wrath upon them." We kept laughing because the verses were so not uplifting!
However, my friend said that it works when you need it to. She and I are both very religious Catholics.

That's simplistic. There are a lot of situations that the Bible does not directly address.

Here's one.

Conjoined twins are born. They must be separated or both will die. But they share one heart. So one must die to give the other a chance to live. How does the Bible guide us to choose which twin lives and which dies?

This was a REAL occurrence.

Many more moral quandaries are possible.

The Bible does help in almost every situation.

Sometimes, though the Bible is not enough and people need proffesional or medical assitance with their problems.

Remember though the Bible is not a magical book that you can just open it wherever and it will just automatically help you. That God mysteriously let you open it to that specific passage. The power of God is not be manipulated in such fashion.
