I had this problem, I went to the garden centre and bought some little clay balls that sit on top of the soil, you can water the plant through them, but they are a bit too hard for a cat to enjoy digging them over, plus they look really nice, you should change the soil in the pot as well, cat pee is very caustic and will burn the roots, also a couple of moth balls just under the little clay balls will put the most determined cat off!

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!
Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

Put some orange or lemon peel on the soil or even put orange juice (a tiny bit) on the soil. Cats hate the smell and won't go near it. I had a cat that did the same thing and we put orange peel on and around the plant. Problem solved!

I have heard this: put aluminum foil over the soil. Cats hate the way it feels. This will still let water drain...just lay sheets of the foil on top of the soil. I put saran wrap over the top of my pot....2 sheets that went around the lid of the pot and left an opening on the trunk....this keeps my cat out. Good Luck!

I had this exact same thing happened and used aluminum foil...it worked.
Heads up: you'll have to re-plant the tree and put all new dirt in the pot. Mine ended up dieing because I caught it too late.

you would possibly want to start up by re potting the plant. get rid of the airborne dirt and dust, rinse of the flowers roots and sparkling out the pot. placed clean airborne dirt and dust and bypass the plant to a gap that the cat can't attain it. some cats like the feel of using airborne dirt and dust to some cat muddle. attempt distinct muddle. i exploit timber pellets, the kind you take advantage of in timber burning stoves, it truly is a organic muddle, my cats gained't use the different muddle. sturdy success

I tried everything suggested and more. In the end it was my cat or my plant. I get lots more satisfaction from my cat. Adios plants, goodbye!

cover the top of the soil with big pebbles...it worked for me plus it makes the plant pot look better..and is harmless to the plant.....b tw you should replace the soil with fresh soil as it is already contamanated
