This is totally unrelated to the unimportant news concerning the missile and the satellite as I have held this view for the last 10 years.

I don't doubt it. But consider this, we're kinda friends with China now, more so than during the Cold War. When China takes superpower status, they will probably remain friends with us, much like we are friends with England, and they're slightly less prosperous than us, and were once the superpower country.

Unless they knock out all of our satelites and envelope us a nuclear firestorm.

GOOD, I say. Remember if you happen to be in the Philippines or grow up in the Philippines which I do not think both of these is at present in your position. Philippines and China have a very...very...very long relationship since before the Spaniards came to the shore of the Philippines in 1521. Philippines has a Chinese community which is helping the Filipinos since the dawn of time and every Chinese new year which I suppose you watch over the tv the strong bond between the Philippines and China. The very famous one is in BINONDO area, which has the biggest Chinese community in the Philippines. I literally grow up in these area of Divisoria market while my mother is working in one of the stores. Hypothetically if CHINA would duplicate what JAPAN did in 1941 today and decided to invade the entire Southeast Asia, do you think China will invade the Philippines? No is my own conclusion, why? first of all China is not the imperial Japanese army which has a loyalty to their emperor in the 1930's. With the booming and the rapid growth of its army China can obviously invade any country it desires. What they want is the unification of Taiwan which until now is considered a hostile province of China. Second, China as I said has a lasting history of relationship with the Philippines. If you will notice there are more and more Chinese in the Philippines today than anywhere in our Philippines history they are traders, investors and business tycoons. They literally owned the Philippines. Third, if China will invade the Philippines, do you think our entire AFP or our military might is sufficient to stop a large army and navy of China? I do not think so. Remember the PEARL HARBOR in 1941 after the Japanese bomb HAWAII at 7 am early morning, they proceed to launch the attack on the Philippines and at 12 noon lunch time they are already at Manila. Today without the help of the US marine and navy, China can easily slip inside the Philippines with ease. If China will launch an attack at 7 am morning time, by stroke of 10 am the entire Philippines is already in the HANDS OF THE CHINESE NAVY and ARMY. China was estimated to have 1 million army in 1973, that was more than 30 or more years ago. Imagine that today. And with the sophisticated weapons and equipment they have today against our AFP guns and ammunition which they inherited after WW2 what chances do we have against the entire Chinese army? We will be slaughtered like a pig or a lamb in the dinner table. In 1941 we are still a part of the US contigency army in the Far East yet we are over run by the Japanese army how much more today that we are standing alone and without the help coming from the US we are a sitting duck with any country which will try to invade the Philippines.

why is everyone afraid of china? sure they have a military buildup and a large economy, but consider: the united states budget in military spending is 14 times that of china. which means that, in loose terms, if they build 1 plane, we can easily build 14 to counter them. simple as that. their nuclear arsenal is not international, meaning they wont be able to send one our way. their economy is in danger of overheating. by the year 2040, scientists predict that 430 million people in china will be over 60, severly damaging their economic output. by the year 2050, india (a US partner) will have more citizens and more global influence than china. so for everyone who has heard things about china's huge military buildup, it is still relatively small in the global scale. its like a race. the united states and the EU are a few laps ahead of them. while they are catching up, they can only push so hard for so long. and while their efforts may get them close, they were just too far behind to begin with. it is highly unlikely that china will be a contending superpower by the time the 21st century closes. By the way, without the US, there is no China. And vice versa. They rely on each other too much.

What might are you referring too?

Military might? Oh perhaps. I truly doubt though that the Chinese would want to take the world by military conquest. Why? The investment in China from abroad is at record amounts and it wouldn't serve China's interests to try and cripple that money pouring in.

Economic might? China, with 1 BILLION consumers and a huge economy will over take both the USA and the EU in a matter of years.

I believe that within the next 10 years the econmic center of the planet will move from Wall Street to Chinia. That the Indian, & Chiniese markets will begin to dominate the world economy. What this means for the rest of the world we just have to wait and see.

It's a very close call. I feel they are already superpower and the general public wat underestimate them in their might.Their the reason for a North Korea and a South Korea, they also played the major role in Vietnam war.Additude with weapons is their strenght, and viewing them as someone we can deal with could be the end of us all. They are a very old nation, and no one to take lightly!
