Is it true tall men like dating shorter women rather than women at their height?

I'm wondering if it's true most men like shorter women, half their height, rather than a tall and well-built women. I often see tall men with shorter women. Why don't they date someone their height?

Actually the perfect height for a woman to date a man is about 4-6" taller than her height. My wife is the same height, makes it harder for Ballroom Dancing.

It's an interesting question, and I think there's something to your observation. When I think back, all of my girlfriends in the past were shorter than myself, and my fiancee is nearly a foot shorter than me. However, it was never a conscious choice that I made. That is, I didn't go out saying "I'm going to get myself a short girlfriend" and it just kind of worked out that way. It's also not that I don't find taller women attractive, because they're certainly out there, but it just seems like my mental "archetype" girlfriend was always on the shorter side. If this appears to be frequently true for many men, there probably is some kind of reason for it. If their experience is similar to mine, it's not an actual choice they make but is just how they're wired. Back in my dating days, I never ruled out dating someone my own height or even taller, but it just never happened.

My fiancee often points out that she feels safe with me because I'm on the tall side. As a biology major, I can stipulate that this could be some kind of evolutionary adaptation--shorter women go for taller men because they feel safer with them, and tall men go for shorter women because said women "need" their protection, and therefore are more likely to stay with them. Just my take on it.

It certainly seems that way. Most tall men I know go out with much shorter women , I guess they like to accentuate their manliness. Some men don't care though. A woman's height does not matter when she's flat on her back !

I am 6' 8" and I find it that there is not a hole lot of tall women, for us tall men to be dating. I have never found a women that is my height.

Jackie I am going to say this based on personal experience and from some friends who have petite girl friends.

Some Men choose their mate carefully and that brings them towards looking at shorter and petite woman instead of a taller grown woman./

The reason is because he gains a more Macho feeling when he has pleased his mate in bed. Short petite women make a Man masculine and that is my personal opinion though, others may not agree with me.

It is not all true. the truth is not many women reach the height that men do. they have a shorter growth sprout than men do. for me it is nice to have a shorter woman at your side. they look up at you when they are in need (and i mean literally) and it gives us a sense of responsibility and power towards the woman they love.

It depends on the kind of guy. Most guys that are tall prefer women that are shorter then them.It gives them a kind of toughness. But some guys don't really care how tall their women are.

I can not answer for all of the men out there, but as for me i like my women to be shorter then me, i am also 6'4", so it is a good thing i do because i would have some slim pickings if i liked them taller then me!

Generally speaking, yes, most men like there women to be shorter than them. I think it has to do with feeling comfortable and maybe less intimidating.

I wouldn't go out with a tiny girl, but if i dated someone the same height as me and she wore heels, I would look shorter - and thats not a good look.
