What sort of circumstances or life lessons did it take for you to realize that they arent as stupid as you once thought they were when you were a teenager? Have you ever told them that they were right?

After having my own children I have come to realize , that yes "you are what you hang out with". No "You cannot sleep your life away". No"drinking and driving do not mix" and Yes "drugs are a dead end". and Yes "somehow they do have eyes in the back of their heads". Somewhere down the line I have grown them myself. Ect,Ect

Honestly? I have always known that my parents knew what they were talking about. I've always taken their advice. I hope my kids are that way.

Unfortunately I found out that they were mostly wrong... the big thing for me was coming to the realization that they were falable...

And that I... yes I repeat... I could be wrong... once I did that I realized my parents could be correct... I just thought I was always correct and they were only wrong when they didn't agree with me...

and I always understood they made decisions based on what "they" thought was best for me..

But it was probably around 24 that it all came into perspective...a nd then somewhere around 30 I think I completely got it... (having your own kids helps)

I never was really rebellious. But I didn't always listen to what they said.

When did I figure out they had some good ideas? When I had kids of my own and realized I was doing a lot of repeating of what I had always heard and found to be true.

True, a lot of things change just because of the changing times, but I found they weren't always a change for the better. I had to do some 'adjusting' to their words of wisdom with my kids.

I realized my folks weren't as lame as I thought when I became a parent. As my kids grew so did my appreciation for what my parents taught me. I've since apologized to my mom for being the brat that I was...that was around the time my kids were turning into teens! What goes around comes around, huh?

I'm 30. I've PUT myself through a lot BS and in dangerous situations. If I listened to my mom, I would have avoided alot of heartache and pain. Oh well. You live and you learn.
