I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and started eating healthy. I was at my heaviest weight (about 134) and I'm only 5' 2"- 5' 3"
I weighed myself for the first time today since I started working out, and I'm 130 now. Isn't 4 pounds a small amount to lose in 2 weeks? I'm not expecting a miracle, I'm dedicated to continuing my routine but I thought I would lose more. This is my routine, let me know if you have any suggestions. Also, I'm not sure how many calories to have since I'm working out, so I eat around 1100.

Work out 5 days a week. 45-60 minutes of cardio (treadmill mostly, sometimes exercise bike)
Light weight training for arms, legs, and ab exercises
Drinking about 8 cups of water
Low fat/cal meals (about 1100 calories a day)

Should I be switching up my exercise routine more? Eating more or less? I would like to weigh about 110 by the summer. Thanks for your help! :)

It sounds like you're on a solid track for your height and weight! If you like what you're doing, exercise wise, stick with it! You might want to try the elliptical machine, which burns a few more calories than the treadmill or the exercise bike (according to one of my doctors).

You might also want to consider decreasing or cutting out added salt, and look for low-sodium foods, to shed any excess water weight. I'm on a low-fat/cal diet that's also low-sodium, and it's helping me a lot.

I would say that you are making good progress. Consistency is the key to your success. I hope you maintain your diet even on days you don't workout. Even just drinking soda 2 days a week can hinder your progress.

You're routine seems fine considering the weight you have already lost.

I don't know what your eating habits are but I would suggest (if you are not already doing this) that you eat more frequently throughout the day (5-6 times) in smaller portions maintaining the caloric intake you already have set. Also, make your last meal of the day very low carb and eat it at least 2 hours before you go to bed so you don't store unused carbs overnight. This will trick your metabolism into speeding up and you will start burning more calories throughout the day and more fat during your workouts.

20 lbs by summer should be a cinch for you if you are patient enough.

The same thing is happening to me. I've been doing the treadmill & eating about 1200 calories per day for 14 days and I feel like I haven't lost anything!! UGH!! The scale says 3lbs, but my body feels nothing. But I AM NOT going to give up. Keep reminding yourself that you didn't put the weight on in 2 weeks so you're not going to lose it in 2 weeks either. Give it 4 weeks and see what happens. It will seem alot better when you can say "I've lost 8lbs". Be patient, and keep doing what you're doing. You are not alone!! I'm not looking for a miracle either, I just want to see SOMETHING happen!!! GOOD LUCK

You seem a little obsessed. You are not supposed to keep weighing yourself when you are trying to get in shape. All it will do is discourage you. 4 pounds is the most you should be losing in 2 weeks. If you lost any more in that short period of time you would gain it back just as fast if you were to go off of your diet for any reason.

Dave K is correct. You are on the right track with safe weightloss of 1-2 lbs a week. It is a slow process and it takes time, you should have no problem as long as you stick with your program. At some point you may find that you stop losing weight as your muscles tone and possibly grow. Muscles weighs more than fat so if you reach a "plateau" it may be that you are at that point. Sounds like you are doing fine.

Keep in mind that when you work out, you are developing muscle.

Muscle is denser than fat so just measuring your results using a scale might not show the overall picture.

I'm not sure what your goals are (ie why you're working out) but I would review those. You might say you want to lose weight but in actuality, you want to have a better defined body.

My advice is to keep at it and research as much as possible because every person is different.

You are doing great, most people only lose 1 to 2 lbs a week, keep up the good work.

4 lbs in 2 weeks is awsome. I only lost 2lbs every 9 days and now I haven't been able to loose anything. I work out and eat lots of fresh fruit but I can't shake it. Just keep at it.

2 lbs. per week is great!! You're losing actual fat, not water. Your calories may be a bit low though. Especially cuz you're working out..try upping it to at least 1200 calories per day, but don't be afraid to go up to 1500. You're burning alot by exercising!
