I think Midnights Children is a better book, The Satanic Verses is hard going.

Just read the reviews at Amazon. I think I will go to the library and get it. It might be rather interesting. The reviews, one by a Muslim, said that many Western readers will not understand or pick up on some of the satire against Islam.

I love the ignorance of some of the people answering who have no idea what the book is about but feel free to leap in with their opinions.

I haven't read the book through. I did peruse it at the library. It is a very deep and symbolic book. You have to pay close attention to where it shifts from "reality" into to a dream sequence. One of its characters is mentally ill and shifts in and out of reality. I have also been told that unless you have some grounding in the Islamic faith you miss out on a lot of the meaning and symbolism in the book. I would recommend seeing if you could find a copy through the library before buying it. Although the chance the local library has it may be slim they can probably get it through interlibrary loan for you if you ask. Hopefully, your librarian is more literate than the average Yahoo respondant and doesn't think its a treatise on Devil worship. =)

Because of all the violent responses when that book authored and for the sake of people who murdered because of that book. read it, it worth. the deceased Khomainy ordered violence against the author and publishers, and some of those murdered by terrorists. so just guess why terrorists don't want you to read it.. probably it is worth.

Well, some of the answers so far are very amusing.

I have a copy of it on my shelf and have started it once. But didn't get deeper than one chapter.

Other than the uproar it stirred when it was published I never really heard anything about it.

It's not worth it any more than The DaVinci Code.

Not worth the money, trust me. I even bought the Satanic Bible, out of curiousity not because I believe in him. Surprisingly enough all the "love thy neighbor" crap was even in it, but it does say to smite your neighbor if he / she doesn't love you back....lol.
