In Persian language "Shaura" means "Council".
This word orginaly is an Arabic word (شورا).

*************************
"yakkydoc"

The word you wrote is "Sho_ara" (شعرا) that is plural word for "Poet".

The word "Shaura" is closer to "Shora" which we use for "Council".

Anyway, I agree with your statement about words. But I think our problem about these words is accent :)

The Arabic word for council is 'shoora', not 'shaura'.' Shaura' means poets in Urdu, plural of 'Sha-ir', poet. Isn't it fascinating, how one word can have so many, varied meanings for different people?

Seriously? We named our daughter Shaura in 1973.. for us it was just a combo of both grandmothers names.. and had NO meaning whatsoever, ethnic or otherwise.....but now, she is being profiled on airline watch lists every time she tries to fly... HOW STUPID are people nowadays?

Shaura means "shave" in Malayalam and Tamil. Shaurakaran = barber
