Well half of Muay Thai you might as well say is boxing. So if your asking if boxing does well in MMA the answer would be yes. I mean look at Chuck Lidell, the Light Heavyweight Champion. He wins by knocking all his opponents out or to the ground from his Boxing skills. Would boxing skills alone do well in the MMA? Oh Hell No! You have to incorporate other skills to compete with them guys. Half of all MMA fights end up being on the floor/ground at some point during the fight. So it would be foolish to go in relying on your boxing skills alone. I myself have been taking Thai Boxing for a few years now. I have just gotten into doing a little bit of juijitsu(groundfighting) cause if im fighting or sparring with a groundfighting opponent and they get me on the mat I am defenseless basically. Muay Thai is great though it includes so much boxing technique added with elbow, knees, shins, etc. A straight Muay Thai boxer cannot even compete in MMA without some groundfighting skills though. I hope I helped out with your question.

i am pretty sure in an mma match that a strong muay thai fighter would defeat a strong boxer just by the nature of the styles. Boxers longer strikes and can avoid punishment by staying out of reach, buy muay thai fights dont rely heavily on fists, instead they have fists, elbow, and knees, giving them much opportunities to strike. but both skills are essential in mma,

Muay Thai fighters vary alot in their abilities, but I still think they have an advantage over boxers because legs are longer than arms and I think they can land more direct hits than hitting alone. Since they are trained in martial arts they can incorporate more spinning moves and blocking techiniques and have the element of surprise working for them more. I am on a Karate sparring competition team and watch ISKA kick boxing & muay thai fighting all the time on Altitude network, it's GREAT!!!

I've seen kickboxers do better than boxers in mma. Kicks are very important too. Maybe just use boxing in the fighter's training to make their punching a little better but that's about it.

Boxing skills in MMA are very important, but nowadays you need to be well rounded in order to be successful.
