Firstly, decide what sort of thing you want to volunteer for (i.e. conservation project, charity work, helping with children - personally, I volunteer at the local hospital radio station).

Then, have a look online to see if they have a website, or look in the local paper. You could even go to your local volunteer centre. If you find somewhere you like the look of, write to them expressing your interest, and TELL them straight away why you think you would be good. They will probably be only too glad to have a new member.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

You have to reach out to the organisation you would like to be involved with. If you don't know, then think about who/what you would like to work with - children, old people, animals. You can also look online at your local council website and see what's on offer there. I have just started getting involved with Home-Start (look up their website if you don't know what it is!) www.home-start.org.uk

Depends what you want to do. I worked at Oxfam for a while - just walked in and asked if they needed anyone. Was great fun - met lots of people.
