It is a small room, so I don't want to go too dark, unless maybe it was an accent wall. We have brown microsuede furniture. & we are going to put in a light brown/neutral carpet. What goes great with brown?

I have a lot of browns, vary from lighter browns, to darker. I say definately an accent wall! Go w/ a lighter oat color for 3 of the walls, pick your main wall & do a deep red, wine. The lighter colors will make your room look bigger, bring in more light, & match your furniture & carpet. The accent wall will make the room "pop!" Give you some color, brighten it up--GO FOR IT!

bring in some plants, real or fake, BUT put them in a bamboo like baskets--it'll bring out your browns. Add some bamnoo--nice accent pieces out there now--it'll pull all together nicely!

I Am also getting ready to paint my family room within the next couple of months and it is also very small...I have one wall that is all cupboards and bookshelves and the rest I plan on doing texturing on the bottom with a border over it and paint on the top... I'm considering a light cocoa brown which will go well with my dark blue furniture and will compliment the dark. I only have one window in the room so I also need to lighten it up which the color I have chosen will do...The texturing I will also do in the same color ( light cocoa brown) but with another color mixed with glazing to make it transparent and add some depth and accent over top I will put trim border to seperate the two...I'm excited to get the chance to get this done as I have already done the texturing in my living room over dark paneling and completely changed the atmosphere. I now have a more comforting and inviting living room, I'm very happy with the way the texturing turns out. Good Luck..

It all depends on your tastes and the primary function of the room. If you are looking for a calm atmosphere with a neutral and relaxing feel - try a light shade of beige. For a more invigorating room used for conversation and livelyhood - try a light shade of yellow or orange. For a nurturing effect, pink is always a wonderful match with neutral browns. If you would like to expand the room's appearance try mixing the look up a bit with wall paper in a color complimentary to your paint choice on one wall or adjacent walls. It will look great and give a feeling of depth. Hope this helps.

I would suggest two tones... paint the lower portion of your wall a darker khaki color, and then paint the upper a few shades lighter. A chair rail is inexpensive to do, and adds some class to the room.

A chair rail is typically about 32" from the ground... just make sure you level it up all around the room.

If you don't like the two colors, only do one wall in an accent color... then do the rest in a neutral shade.

Enjoy!

You should get the Wooley Roller. You can mix a light and dark color and get a textured look. I did my living room like this and get a lot of compliments.
