I think everyone believes that they are right, because if they didn't they wouldn't believe in what they believe in, right? lol so if you try to insult thier beliefs or something it is like you have insulted them. :-) and I should say that not all the muslims are like that, not even many of them (at least not iranians lol) ^^

I am a Christian, and I have met many, many Muslims who are wonderful, caring and nonjudgmental. I have not met any who are those things that you say. I'm sorry you are finding it so difficult to find the good in them. However, I wonder if you go into a conversation with a person of a different faith or ethnicity with negative energy and look only for the bad.

How would you feel if I started to tell you everything that was wrong with your religion? If it is something about which you feel strongly you will most probably get defensive - since an attack on something so close is a personal attack. Find your commonality... do you both believe in a God/Allah/or a higher power? Do you both believe in faith, community, family?

I believe that Christianity only has part of the answer, The Jewish religions has part, the Islamic religion has part, and other religions have part. Only when we come together will we have the true answer.

Well the first step is to meet a Muslim, lol!
Second step is to stop ignoring the Muslims who are peaceful with you, lol!
Once you've accomplished those, you'll be good to go.

On another note, however, I have to say that Muslims take religion more seriously than some others. For example, there are many Christians who are so conditioned to seeing insulting images of Jesus (saws) that it doesn't phase them. However a Muslim has respect of all prophets, and it hurts us that people can be so cruel. I'll give you a little insight into something you've probably never heard before.
After the cartoons of the Prophet (saws) circulated, you know there were many violent protests, but you never caught wind of the peacefull protests that Muslims did (the media is too addicted to violence to pay attention to them). Denmark has high export of their dairy products to the Middle East, probably their biggest source of income from what I hear. The Arabs (even Arab Christians) boycotted all Danish dairy products and Denmark took a huge blow to the wallet for that. In another situation, remember the big uproar Christians made about the Davinci Code? Well, Muslim-ran Egypt banned this movie from playing in their country. Why? It wasn't offensive to Muslims, it was offensive to Christians. And that is why they banned it.

Trying to prove a point isn't nearly as beneficial as trying to gain knowledge.

Gala: A little bit of education goes a long way. As does some good chocolate to calm those nerves. ;-) I offer both to you.

Oh, and one more addition. I've seem the term criticism come up many times. A truly good critic knows the difference between criticism and insulting, and never combines the two.

Most people of a particular faith will tend to get defensive and worked-up if you point out something "wrong" about their religion. I've met very few people who take kindly to being told they are wrong, especially about their faith, which most people take very seriously. Most Christians and Catholics and Jews and Hindus and everyone else I've met has the tendency to be defensive when it comes to their religion. As far as hypocrisy goes, no one religion has the corner on that - I've met hypocrites of every faith, race, and gender.

Your assumption that your (probably limited) experience with Muslims somehow allows you to make a broad stereotype of everyone that is of Islamic faith is fairly judgemental on your part.

I think this can happen with anyone who has some core belief that is intrinsic to how they see themselves. They can not stand having it challenged because it is a threat to their whole way of life. They don't want to know if there is a chance they are wrong and they only want to hear opinions that agree with their own position. Anyone who challenges their beliefs is an enemy and a threat to them. This occurs with anyone who is very invested in a belief such that they really are no longer interested in the truth and can accept no chance of alternative views being correct if it contradicts their belief, religious fundamentalism of all stripes seems to bring this out in people, not just muslims.

Well AngelDust !! i have been through the replies of your question, and i think you would have also noticed one thing..that whoever got a chance to meet muslims personaly have appreiciated them....Well this is wht i believe in , your personal experience counts, not the opnions of others who never get to meet muslims but only "know" them through their media and islam-haters.........Listen sis, Muslims are normal human just like others, wht you have told goes for other religions too, when someone insult your religion, its natural to get angry......and at the same time they goes defensive too just trying to tell that the person is giving wrong information.....Well if someone insult your religion you will also get angry........otherwise muslims are most tolerant peoples here.....their religion is always attacked but most of them still try to answer nicely !!! just observe it around and you would know!!

Peace !!!

I absolutely agree with you. Some Muslims are nice to me, but sadly, they're a minority. I get abused all the time, and when I don't get abused, I get answers that just avoid really answering the question. Sometimes I react by getting angry myself, but that definitely doesn't change the fact that there's something wrong with the Muslims here. Anyone who criticizes Islam becomes an asshole, a bigot, a liar, an Islamophobe, a racist, a redneck, ignorant, or a "******* Christian missionary" as one person on islam.com eloquently called me. It's annoying but it's the Muslim mindset and there's nothing anyone can do about it. All we can do is try and educate ourselves and hope others do the same. It's no use arguing with most Muslims. It's pointless.

There are extremists in most religions, but they seem to avoid contact with others, where these muslum extremists seem intent on eradicating anyone different than they are. There are villians in all faiths, countries and political groups, and there are those just trying to get along.

Hello there!!!
Well, the fact is that muslims have the feeling that their fate is not accepted from western people. this is due to historical and sociological reasons.

Islam is not a false religion nor is Prophet Muhammed(PBUH*) a false prophet. The reason Muslims like myself are so defensive about Islam is because people make fun of our prophets and slander Islam. Also they choose to believe everything on the media and think our women are being oppressed and not allowed any freedom which is not true. And they also commit hate crimes against us and the FBI targets our mosques and we're always checked by security before we can get on a plane just because we're Arabs and/or Muslims. And our children can't pray in schools and we can't pray without being arrested by the FBI. How are we supposed to feel about all this anger and hate towards us? You don't know what it's like to be persecuted every day of your life by people in a country that is supposed to be free because of your ethnicity or beliefs until you experience it for yourself. I challenge you to dress as a Muslim woman in full covering and walk into an airport. I guarantee you'll be stopped by security and checked VERY INTENSIVELY.
