Some may feel that they are not right with Him, others don't know Him or understand Him on a personal level. We often fear what we cannot understand. Also, if we look to the Old Testament, it says we are supposed to fear His presence. The priests of old tied a rope to their leg before they entered in under the veil into God's presence because they were not sure if they would make it back alive. It is that powerful. It says in His word that no man shall stand in the glory of God. We should be humble, repentant, and exhibit a broken spirit when in His presence. We should honor Him.
I know that was long. Hope it helps.
God bless

All people fear the presence of the Lord. He is Holy. It takes the grace of God to make a man fit to be in the presence of God. He is not to be taken lightly. By all who come near Him He must be regarded as Holy. Since the fall the natural response of man is to flee from the presence of the Lord.

I have never heard of anyone being afraid of "the presence of the Lord", but if they were, I'd imagine they had a bad experience of some kind.

I don't know anyone closely who fears the imaginary presence of imaginary beings, eg gods, devils, angels, demons, ghosts, dragons, Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, ET, etc., etc.! Why do you believe such a weird thing? I certainly do not fear imaginary non-beings at all.

Because they have been taught to be afraid. There are more threats from (insert deity here) than there are empowerments. So, after a conversion experience the terrified adherent will respond appropriately. Fear, fear, fear ...

The Holy Spirit speaks to people. He wants to save all. Most people choose not to listen, so they have a feeling that everything is not right (Their conscience tells them they made a bad choice) So they do not want to face the Almighty judge.

Well there is no Lord, but if there was I would have some pretty pointed questions for him.
