Last time it erupted, it covered the entire United States in lava. So if that happened, the entire United States and everybody in it would be wiped off the map. It would probably have pretty bad effects on the world's weather too, causing crops to fail all over the world, so probably civilisation would fail everywhere else. It's not clear whether hunmankind woud die out as a species, but it is possible.

The ash ejected into the sky would block out the sun worldwide, sending us into a prolonged winter. Virtually all plant life would die. Virtually all animal life would become extinct, including humans.

Perhaps a handful of plants, animals, and humans could be saved, sequestered away until sunlight returns. Life and civilization would have to essentially start from scratch.

a giant cloud of CO2 would be released into earths orbit causing the death of many plants around th world. in no more than two weeks the cloud would form a"belt" around the earth that would stay in orbit, would last many years causing destruction and blocking the sun's rays from reaching the earth. for some years the earth will be in a winter like condition and many people would die of starvation
