Did you ever hear someone ask that? First of all the bible says that "no one is righteous, no not one". And secondly, God works much good through the bad He allows to happen to us. I am a much stronger person because of all of the "bad" that I have been through. And sometimes we just plain deserve it and don't realize it like when we have done something bad to someone else and it comes back around to us. What are people's thoughts on that?

To Space Needle - No I'm not ashamed. As Angelz said, God gave us a free will, too. That wasn't God who did that to the child but man. But God will help the child and bless them or take them home to paradise. And as Rod C said, this world isn't our reward. Our reward is in heaven. Jesus said expect tribulation here. God is never evil to people or unfair. If you seek Him out instead of writing Him off He would show you why.

To James P - How do you know He's not working the bad in a favorable manor? When I grew up I had a violent alcoholic father. I could've hated God for my life but I always trusted in Him. He got me through it and built good qualities in me because of it and when I grew up, I helped teenagers of alcoholics. I thank God for the bad I went through.

There are a number of reasons for it:
To test us
To strengthen us
To demonstrate God's grace (Story of Paul)
To discipline us
To teach us
To show the consequences of our actions
To prepare us for future ministry
To take us to Heaven
To warn others
To glorify Himself
To keep us humble
To show unbelievers how those who know Christ respond in tribulations

Funny thing is, that question only comes from people who believe in He exists. And it is only asked in anguish by those who both believe that He exists and also have at least some belief that He is good. Part of the pain of that question is knowing that He is good and all powerful and yet chose not to cause things to work in a more favorable manner. The other part of that pertains to the fact that people are ignorant to the sinfulness of sin and how utterly depraved mankind really is. It is not until we start to gaze at Him that we can even begin to see ourselves as we truly are. added...I never said that He doesn't work the bad to a favorable manor, on the contrary I know He works "all things to the good of them that love Him". You asked a question and then the opinions on that question, that is what I gave you. I have watched good Christian and non Christian friends alike struggle with the loss of children and children being born with severe defects...they ask that question a lot, don't belittle their pain by trying to answer it. Only God can. Yes He works even these things to peoples good but we are often unable to see it at the time. You did not see the good from your alcoholic father when you were a child, it was time and hindsight and revelation from God Himself that helped you to understand. that is also how it will work for others.

The argument from evil, used by non-believers to show that god is a logical impossibility assumes that the god in question is benevolent. This is a valid argument. Bad things happen to us all. If god is good, logic follows that the action or inaction of deity would only produce good. As far as working through evil to develop and empower individuals toward belief, upright living and submission to the ultimate power I find it interestly similar to some forms of parenting a child. It has the opposite effect, is abusive and a foundation for many courts to terminate the rights of custody for parents guilty of this form of child care. A holy beating is a beating ...

Romans 8:28
28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
There are, however, unthinkable things that happen that make no sense to us even if we can find a positive outcome. Bad things don't happen to people because they necessarily "deserve" them. I tend to think that we sometimes walk out of God's hedge of protection when we try to do things our way instead of His. When we walk out of God's protection, evil can attack us and so bad things happen. The Good News is that when you walk with Jesus Christ, He will protect you and carry you through this dark world. Our prize is truly in the afterlife, but Jesus is also willing to give you abundant life here. He is the giver of peace that passes all understanding. He is the giver of life.
Yet, I there are senseless and evil things that happen to the innocent that serves no purpose that I can conceive. And there are evil, senseless things that happen that end up bringing about a good outcome (like the holocaust and the returning of Israel to the Jews).
When I think of some of the senseless things that happen to innocent children, for example, my heart just breaks. I remember that earth is a vile, evil place. There is evil that lurks around us. The cries of the innocent does not go unheard. God will avenge them. Be aware, however, that when you walk without God, you walk alone and so there is more of an opportunity for evil to befall you.
The happy moments we have in this life are truly blessings from God. I am grateful for the peace He gives me in my life, even when the world is in chaos. I resolve to have more communion with God. No matter what, God is good and merciful. Evil will come to an end when Jesus Christ returns to the earth. So I pray and look forward to His coming.
P.S. Sorry it took me so long to write. I had so many interruptions.

All people, christians and non-christians grow old and die and many die from unforeseen circumstances. The reason bad things happen to anyone, is because of God's enemy, Satan the devil. He challenged God's right to rule over the earth and said that humans do not need God and could rule themselves independently without God's help. God is answering Satans challenge by allowing man to try to live without his interference. Satan also said that humans would discontinue serving God if he( Satan and his demons)) were allowed to cause them pain and suffering. There have been and still are many who are proving Satan to be a liar, who love and serve God faithfully, despite whatever persecution Satan brings upon them.
What has been the result of man ruling man without God intervening? Suffering and injustice, wars, crime and hatred.
God has promised to soon rid the earth of all those things and to destroy Satan and all who follow him. Satan will lose the challenge and be proved a liar. By remaining faithful to the end, we show that we are on God's side and prefer his rule over man's.
We need a righteous ruler who will be just and merciful. Human rulers can do nothing for us. (Psalm 146:3)
Look what Psalms 37:9-11 promises us--" For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."
Soon the meek who inherit this earth will be under one government that will last forever. (See Daniel 2:44) No more will we have to put up with imperfect human rulers who can never bring an end to injustice, crime, terrorism or death itself. God's government will do all that and more.

God does not interfere with the free will he gave to mankind. People do bad things not God but God know everything and there will come a time that people will have to answer for their own selves. Nothing goes unseen or unheard by God, Nothing.

When I hear that question, I always think of Jesus saying the first will be last and the meek shall inherit the earth. God bless those good people who endure, because they will see His glory first hand. If we also look at the etymology of the word 'bless' it means to wound. To be wounded by God is to be blessed by Him. It makes us stronger.
God bless

Sounds okay to me.
But the Bible also said that the rain that God sends falls on the righteous and the wicked. Meaning that calamity does not discriminate.

The thing about God that I totally trust, is that He knows what's best for me better than I do.
All of my trials have made me stronger, wiser, or just a better person. He knew that outcome all along, even when I didn't and kept thinking it wasn't fair.

Jesus was asked this same question by the Jews, and answered it in Luke 13.
Luke 13:1-5 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
