Every religion has it's purpose for being here just like people do. Some are vessels of honor useful to God and some are vessels of destruction. Most, I'd say give to their community and if nothing else distill some good morals on society.

There would be no world devoid of religion. It would be a much better world if devoid of caste, communities, language or race barriers?

That sounds like Heaven. Too bad it can never be.

Sorry, took a while to type this out, but I hunt and peck type, so many of the things I post are a "cut-n-paste" to save time.
But not this time.
This is my opinion of how Christianity has effected Secular History in a nut-shell if you will.
How Christianity Has Affected Secular History
What would life be like if Christ had not come and Christianity had not spread throughout the world?
It would most likely be much different. Although Greece gave western civilization much art, philosophy, and literature, and Rome provided law and government, it was the Christian world view that provided the basis for modern science, efforts to alleviate poverty, universal education, and the ideals of equality and liberty enshrined in the documents of the many governments. The God or order and beauty provided for the view that nature was predictable and orderly.
The Christian belief that all humanity is a creation of God gave a foundation to the self-evident truth of life and pursuit of happiness.
Since peoples are made in the image of God they are valuable apart from their station in life, amount of wealth, or utility to society.
People are helped, educated, and protected simply because they are made in God’s image.
Loss of these Christian ideals would undoubtedly be a tragic loss to the well-being of humanity.

Since we can't go back a few thousand years and try things again without it, we can't really say what religion has contributed. We can't really know whether certain discoveries made by religious scientists would have been made if the scientists were atheists. We can't really know whether certain wars caused or assisted by religion would have happened without religion.
But for the future, I'd say we would definitely be better off without it. I just hope people can work that out before we kill ourselves.

Suffering, hatred, intolerance, sadness. Unfortunately, some people are so deluded by their religion that they can't see it. Just look at history as an example. All of the worst things in history were caused by religious hatred, even the second world war (Hitler was a Catholic who had one hell of alot of Jews tortured to death).
But people are so frightened of what they don't know, and religion gives them answers they can't get otherwise, that they desperately cling to their religion.

While it might seem like a good idea now, and in present society, might well be...remember that in the past, religion was the driving force behind many great civilizations and accomplishments. Without that binding force, it would have been much harder to get people to work together on a single goal.

My first answer is population control. Religion kills more people than anything else and thus keeps the population down.
If the world had none of the things you mentioned above, it might be a pretty nice place where we could all finally get along.

Higher Education. Colleges and Universities were once all institutes of religion. That is why the forefathers of the United States were all religious men. The well-educated of them had all attended colleges or universities that were run by different sects of Christianity.
