I have old HP desktop with PIII and 256MB Ram. I still used Windows98SE and thinking to change it to linux so that I can get better speed for browsing internet.
Is it enough for linux OS?Any suggestion of which Linux OS that I can used and easy to install?

Fedora Core 6. I think I have FC 4 running on a P3 w/ 392 ram or something like that and the machine can fly. I actually have my web sites and databases on the darn thing so while I am looking at movies people can still hit my site w/ no problems.

Warning: Once you go to Linux you will not return to Windows.

if you install linux, it would then wipe XP from the system, but if you just wanna try Linux, try looking up "Linux Knoppix-STD" it is a free verson of Linux that will actually boot up with a CD. All you do is download the files, burn them to CD, and Linux runs straight from the CD, and XP stays on the computer. To start up normally...just take the disk out, and you're running XP again. This method is also used to steal a file called SAM, that stores your Windows Passwords into a file, and using Linux, you can copy the file, take it home, and find the password (but we won't get into that :-)) Just make sure that if you are going to use the Linux CD, you don't leave it at the disposal of a computer wizz. You can also have a working copy of the CD mailed to you for a fairly cheap price. Just do some google searches...you'll find something.

Go for Ubuntu. I found it to be one of the most stable, user friendly Linux systems out there. It works on slower processors quite well Works like magic!!!!!!

Best part is they ship a CD to you for free if your too lazy to download

Just from exploring the same thing, I've found openSUSE and ubuntu to advertise as being beginner-friendly.
