When you download software there is al abel that pops up d and says "Warning,some the information contained in this file may be corrupt or cause damage"

If you continue to download it and open it it could carry spyware or other bad codes that shut down or slowdown your Windows online...then on the other hand, someone installs a cookies in your computer and then robs all your bandwidth causing your computer to lock up and have to reboot.

If you meant that when you try to open a media file (audio , video files and so on) or trying to execute some file, then the most probably reason would be that the files haven't got downloaded correctly, you might have got disconnected so the file size would not be the original one, so you'll not be able to open it ! you might be getting with the same size but in different content that's when you'll be getting a CRC checksum error.
