We allow guests, if a friend comes over, the kids let them know to take their shoes off...it's up to the kids to let their friend know the house rules...what happens is, if the floor is all muddy when their friend leaves, the kids clean it...it's all up to them, they can either let them know the rules themselves, or they clean up after them, or after themselves...this works with our 11 yr old...our 2 yr old won't wear shoes in the house, he takes him off the minute he gets home, and if someone else, even a guest, wears their shoes in the house, he takes them off for them...lol...

I really think that is an American thing. In Canada NO one wears their shoes inside the house... guest, relative, friends, etc. We just leave them by the door. You are hard-pressed to find an exception to that rule.
I remember that wearing my shoes in the house was a big thing because I could only do it if I have brand new shoes that I had never worn outside before.

We make sure to put our shoes right inside of the door, friends that come over know to take there shoes off... some people don't take them off and we feel rude to say so, unless they are wet!
The kids, and there friends never wear shoes in the house.. to much dirt, I dont' want to deal with it.
Saves the rug alot of heartache too :)

I do, but really it's something I've always wanted to stop. I think shoes are so dirty. But I've never been able to stick to it. Maybe one day. For the most part, we never wear shoes just walking around the house, but I'd like to be one of those people who take their shoes off RIGHT AWAY!

I personally don't wear shoes in the house, I'd much rather just wear socks or slippers or be barefoot. However, my parents both wear shoes in their house
When I have my own house, there will be a mat so people can wipe their feet. My kids probably wont be aloud to wear shoes in the house

I would never expect or even ask guests to take their shoes off in my home. However, I do always offer to take mine off when I enter someone else's home. Do I like taking them off? Not especially! In my own home I usually keep a few pairs of slippers by each door so I can slip my shoes off and put them on, but it's more for comfort than anything else.

No I do not allow my children to wear shoes in the house. We have a strict shoes off rule inside my house. Whenever they have friends come over to the house they usually come into the house with us and see us all taking our shoes off and take theirs off too. If I don't see them taking off their shoes my kids usually tell them "we have to take our shoes off in the house." If they are dropped off by their parents and I answer the door I will just say "Come inside, take your shoes off here we don't allow shoes indoors." My friends all know to take off their shoes and leave their shoes at the door when they visit. I have never had anyone not take off their shoes in my house.

I don't let my child to wear shoes inside because it's bad for the feet.
I leave my shoes outside so when people come round they see my shoes. They always take there shoes off. I don't have to ask they just do it.

No, no one is allowed to have their shoes on in my house. I don't really mind if i have a get to gather and not everyone take their shoes off. I don't think it's rude to ask someone to take their shoes off when they come in, it's my house and I'm the one that has to pay to clean the carpet. Whenever i go to someone house i always ask them if they would like me to take my shoes off.

We don't usually like to wear shoes in the house, but I allow it. In the winter time when it is cold who wants to have to keep changing their shoes every time they go in and out? But if they have mud or wet grass on their shoes they have to take them off and leave them on the porch.
