Trivia question which one of the gold medalist from the 1976 Olympics team did not become a world champion and was voted the most out standing boxer in the olympics you guess it Howard Davis Jr. A great armature fighter not a great pro as far as hand speed alone Howard Davis Jr. was every bit as fast as Sugar Ray Leonard that WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT FIGHT TO SEE Davis FOUGHT FOR A WORLD TITLE TWICE COMING up SHORT BOTH TIMES I know this will be hard for a lot of people to be live but yes Howard Davis Jr. was faster than Sugar Ray Leonard as we all know it takes more than speed to be a champion

Five-time golden glove and Olympic winner Howard Davis Jr. of Freeport, Long Island, NY, was quick as a cat and packed power in his punch. Yet Sugar Ray Leonard was a better fighter pound for pound. Sugar Ray had a better knock out punch yet Davis Jr. was probably quicker because he specialized in throwing flurries of punches to rack up points while Sugar Ray could have decked an opponent with a single shot to the head.

yes he was, i once saw him warming up in the ring before a fight and he unleashed a multi-punch combination in the air that made his hands and arms a blur(no camera tricks). i'd never seen anyone's hands move that fast. ray was fast but, like his namesake, he had speed, power, balance, heart, etc., and was a far more complete fighter. had davis had more power and a better chin, he probably would've gone farther in the pro's than he did!

He might have been and was known for his handspeed. Sugar Ray however was obviously the more complete fighter.

No way in hell. I won a ton of money thanks to Sugar Ray....he was fast as lightening and packed a punch.
