First, no, not ALL did. A small handful did not. Some still do not or have abandoned such beliefs.
And yes, those that hold to the idea of a supernatural force are wrong.

Modern science has revealed knowledge that ancient cultures didn't have access to. They explained the world using the framework of ideas and beliefs that existed hence they saw things as supernatural that we now know to be natural.

Yes. Every culture had silly stories to explain the existence of earth. Are they all right? Every culture has a vampire myth. Were they right about that? As human understanding increases, we cast aside our silly and childish beliefs. Some, however, are unwilling to do so, and cling like frightened children to superstitions of the past.
