that make me break out in a sweat..my heart starts racing..my arms go numb...i start hyperventilating...and all of this comes out of of nowhere...Sometimes I think I get so worried that my depression will never go away that I start to panic..My doctor put me on Cymbalta three weeks ago..but it made me so naseous I practically could not eat. Now, he is taking me off of it..and has decided that I need Yoga and Meditation and stuff like that. I am totally open to that..but I need real help, I feel like emergency help, right now, to stop the panic and the horrible feeling of hopelessness. He won't give me anything so I am going to see a psychiatrist this afternoon. Do you think this is helpful? I am terrified right now...Thanks...

All I can say is WOW! I never thought there were so many people with such heartfelt insights for the suffering of me, a stranger. Thank you all SOOOO very much. I have gone in a new direction as of today with a psychiatrist and, fingers crossed..am hoping to move on with my life with a little help from drugs...for the time-being (lexapro +clonopin something, cannot spell it.) and a new exercise, healhty diet and meditation regimen. It feels like I have been to hell, and I will seriously stick to all of these life changing activities to get out of it. I never, ever want to wallow in misery like I was...It is soooo hard and I never really understood what people meant by the words "depression" and "anxiety" until they fell on me like a ton of bricks.
Again, thank you all...so many wonderful, caring answers...!

Depression is a common side effect of an anxiety disorder. It should end when your anxiety disorder gets under control. Everyone responds differently to those kinds of medications and it make take a while to find the medication that gives you the most benefits with the least amount of side effects. Just stick with and I'm sure you and your doctor will find something.

I used to have at least 5 panic attacks a day, and anxiety on top of it all. The best thing for me was to get on Paxil. I haven't had a panic attack since then. A Therapist helped too.
Trust me...I went to the emergency room many times.

Okay, just so you know, I've been exactly where you are and it does get better. first you need to see a different doctor right away. This doctor is not taking you're needs seriously and does not understand the feeling of desperation. While counseling will help...right now you need something to make it stop so you can relax. Ask you're "new" doctor about Paxil or Zoloft and explain how the panic attacks are making you feel. It will take a couple of weeks to take effect but keep in mind that it will end and get better...keeps you're sights on that. I had very few side effects with each of these drugs, except for being a little tired which is much better than agitated. Let me know how it turns out...Good Luck.

Social phobia is common these days.
As is depression.
My panic attacks are usually caused from fear..
So do I see a Priest, or a Psychiatrist?
Or the ER?

Panic attacks are treatable with medication. Ask your doc about an antianxiety medication for the panic attacks and you should be on something for the depression too.

Go to the Dr. and get a prescription for medication, Please DO NOT take Prozac it is very bad for anyone to take, too many Very Bad side effects. The better medicine is Paxil. Ask your Dr. to treat you for depression and anxiety with panic attacks. Know that you can get through this, one step at a time and that you are not alone, join a support group, they have them on the computer. Best Wishes.

I'm surprised your doctor didn't try to give you another medicine. Having gone through EXACTLY what you're describing, I can tell you that the depression and panic attacks go together. My doctor put me on Zoloft, which was quite helpful....Prozac is helpful too, whihc is what I'm taking now.
Never tried Cymbalta.
Word opf advice though...especially with the Prozac...EAT SOMETHING before you take the pill....I find that if I don't, I'll feel nauseated with the prozac. Having a peice of toast before you take it solves that.

Please go to the site online for the Midwest Center For Anxiety And Depression. You will be so glad you did. It really really helped me and I can't say enough good about it. I used to have terrible depression and panic attacks daily. I haven't even had one panic attack since completing the program 18 months ago. I am in good control of my emotions now and I feel so much better.
If I can answer any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
God bless!
