If this is just a powder + water shake (like the GNC shakes I drink ) try this:
Get a bottle with a cap - I usually use a water bottle because I drink a lot of bottled water, but a nalgene type bottle also works well.
Put the powder in the bottom of the bottle (use a funnel if you need to) then add the right amount of water. Twist the cap on (tightly) and shake.

Sometimes I'll have little bits of powder clumped together in the drink, my shaking doesn't blend as well as a blender, but I don't get nearly as much "froth" either. I use the blender when I am at home - froth doesn't bother me, but when I am on-the
-go I use this method.

If you like ice in your shake you can still use this method - add whole ice cubes to the bottle or just crush the ice in your blender and add crushed ice to the bottle.

Tupperware sells a cup with a cover and a "blending wheel" to "ensure quick, thorough mixing" specifically for this type of thing. If you are interested there's a link below.

keep it on low or medium, or you can just remove the froth

Put it through a fine strainer after you make it. It's how they seem to do it at Starbucks.
